  • Super - This was pretty great. Also it wasn't anything like I thought it was, which I don't understand, because I didn't know at all what it was. Go Dwigt go.

John Wick - Missed maybe the first half hour. Going to guess it went something like [lots of guns fir{interrupted by more guns firing}ing].

Horrible Bosses 2 - Missed maybe the first entire movie. I don't think it was really necessary for understanding of the film.

The Maze Runner - The Last Trial At The End Of Harry Potter 4: The Movie was a lot more watchable than I thought it was going to be. Because of that thing I just called it. It actually would have been pretty great if it had killed Chuck before he ruined every scene by forcefully injecting teary emotional cliches, like he was the midichlorien messiah of vagina karma. He was basically The Notebook as a single character, the sole passenger of a Titanic sinking in his own leaking ovary juice while the rest of the cast shrugged and walked away, is what I'm saying. I think. I might have gotten lost somewhere in there.

    • Blazing Saddles - The racial humor was great, but most of the rest was pretty dated. Webster's dad punches a horse, though, and is the source of a joke in There's Something About Mary.

Sleepy Hollow - I kind of loved it. Depp's character was convinced that science and reason would reveal the identity of the killer, and didn't bat an eye when the culprit turned out to be a supernatural entity because he was able to work out the mystery of its origin and purpose. It was like pulling the mask off the scarecrow at the end of a Scooby Doo episode to reveal a werewolf on a leash and everyone saying "Well, that explains it. Right, talking dog?"

I was a bit disappointed by HNH, the book was great and the movie wasn't as great as the book, but still alright, I guess
The Beckett documentary and Run and Jump were both pretty good.

That pretty much nails The Hotel New Hampshire. And most of John Irving's books vs. movies. The World According to Garp and The Cider House Rules are probably the two best, but those books are maybe his two best too.

Chinatown - Well this is pretty great. Nothing too noticeably fancy, but just well goddamn done. The only knock against it I could come up with is that it led to

The Two Jakes - Yikes. Don't think I'm going to make it through this one. Maybe I will spend some time reading up on it. Chinatown was a Roman Polanski movie, and it was easy to see why he's so highly regarded. This is directed by Jack Nicholson, but whether he had any input from Polanski or it was his first time or anything I don't know, but just yikes. Makes you appreciate the first even more, because it didn't give you that shitty cliched feeling this one can't shake.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - Haven't felt the need to see the original again since this version came out. I think Depp said he based his Wonka on W. Bush. That's... I don't know. I like this one.

Burke and Hare - Better than I expected. Nice and dark, plenty of humor in all the killings and doings with the bodies. Kind of similar to A Young Doctor's Notebook.

          • I haven't seen the Depp Chocolate Factory, but I know I haven't been able to watch the Gene Wilder one in over a decade because of my art class senior year of high school. I guess the one AV storage closet was full so one of the tv and vcrs on a cart always lived in the art room. Our teacher said he didn't care if kids brought tapes in to put on as long as everybody was still working and not just sitting and watching. One table of burnout kids totally monopolized it and several days a week would always bring in one of three movies: the aforementioned Gene Wilder Willy Wonka, The Matrix and Pink Floyd's The Wall. Can't stand any of them to this day. The closest I come is that I enjoy the Smoking Popes' cover of "Pure Imagination".

What I'm doing lately is watching movies about mentally ill people or messed up people. Funny Story and DFL were both really touching and hilarious at the same, and though it wasn't part of my "theme" TRT had the same feel, and it's my favorite kinds of movies.

              • I think Depp based his Wonka on Michael Jackson. Out of touch weirdo, overgrown child, daddy issues, living alone in a "castle," obsessed with kids and kid stuff, etc.

                • Birdman (Or the unnecessary length of subtitle) - I really like that it took me about two months of fractured viewings to make it through what took a lot of work to make look like one continuous shot. Looking forward to Birdman Returns.

                  • The Ladies Man - Starring Sir Timothy Meadows. This movie was rated R for no reason I could discern, and I doubt anyone objected because how on earth could anybody have that kind of investment in this thing?

Tremors Goddamn 5 - Jamie Kennedy teams up with Alex P. Keaton's dad in this one. Guess which one says "eat a bag of dicks"? The correct answer is Alex P. Keaton's dad. I would never make you pick Jamie Kennedy. This one seems like it could have been a solid attempt to try to sequel off the original only but just decided to roll with how ridiculous the others got anyways. Decent enough for a movie called "Tremors Goddamn 5: Tremors Goddamn 5".

                      • I finally saw Watchmen the other day and really enjoyed it. I mean, even though it had a "happy" ending, it was just so delightfully messed up and dark. The alternate timeline was presented perfectly, and they didn't get bogged down in any nonsense to clutter up the story. It was a pretty great comic book adaptation, and it looked awesome too.

                        • The Yes Men Are Revolting - It starts with their dumbest and least successful stunt. I really wanted to turn it off but had already come up empty finding anything else to watch and didn't want to hunt around again. It got ok after that.

Bad Words - Despite the absurdity of "You both equally deserve disqualification, therefore we disqualify neither of you.", it was still a pretty enjoyable movie.

Let's Be Cops - I missed the last ten minutes. I doubt that's where all the funny stuff was kept.

I forgot all about seeing the Front and the first Norwegian Waiting for Godot! They were both great!

At home was pretty OK, predictable as hell, but cute! Charlie Bartlett was a great movie, but made me feel old, I should've seen it when it came out! Punch-Drunk-Love was a weird Sandler movie, not particularly good, but not terrible either. 2002 was the year I liked Sandler movies, I'm surprised I didn't see it back then.

                            • Punch-Drunk Love is great. The Paul Thomas Anderson-ness trumps the Adam Sandlerness, which at the time still wasn't at all what it is now.

Hannie Caulder - Ernest Borgnine's rape face has forced itself upon the insides of my eyelids. To get the three brothers to pass as the dirtiest murderin' thievin' mongoloids in the West, makeup had to spend hours dirtying Strother Martin and the other brother every morning while Ernest Borgnine took a bath. Jim Henson used to put googly eyes on Ernest Borgnine's single-use whackoff socks to get Oscar the Grouch puppets. This is not a guy whose coming face is a thing I want splay-legged in one of my memory stalls. Goddamn a fuck.
Not a terrible movie, but then I found out it inspired a bunch of Kill Bill, which is a giant piece of Ernest Borgnine coming.

                                • Miller's Crossing - I'm still trying to figure out the end. The problem is, I don't know what I'm trying to figure out.

Stretch - I commend its restraint on its Transporter nod.

22 Jump Street - I kind of wish these weren't funny, but they just are.

Kingsman: The Secret Service - The jawdroppingly gleeful insanity partway through is on par with when the shit hits the fan in The Cabin in the Woods, but it keeps ratcheting it up. Well done, but not as well done as the IMDB ratings description:
                                  http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2802144/...ef_=tt_stry_pg
Confessional details, and then enough violence to touch the moon.

Run All Night/Taken 3 - I haven't seen Taken or Taken 2, but I'm pretty sure I get it. Run All Night appears to have just filmed someone's Taken/mob fanfiction. Always a little disappointed when he doesn't fistfight wolves at the end of a movie now.

                                  • Man, Miller's Crossing is so good. Top half of the Coen Brothers line-up, which makes it better than pretty much 80% of every movie ever made.

I saw Brick the other night. It really, really worked as a modern movie set inside a serial crime drama of the past, and I loved both JGL and all the dialogue. I was actually reminded at times of (possibly my favourite movie of all time, and another Coen brothers' masterpiece) The Hudsucker Proxy. I just wished it "looked" a little better and had a slightly higher budget to get a few better supporting actors. I guess since it's the first movie of Rian Johnson, it's a huge success in that it was so great. I really liked Looper too, which also did. I guess I need to see The Brothers Bloom and The Skeleton Twins now too. Having seen this, I'm excited that he's doing the next Star Wars film(s?). His sense of what makes a good serial drama is easily 1 million times better than George Lucas'.

OC87 was a bleak documentary, but it was also hopeful and touching and I guess I could relate to parts of it. What about Bob was pretty funny and Bill Murray usually is! Wallflower was great too and it made me wish I had seen it when it came out instead of now, as it made me feel old, I probably would've felt old back then as well. It reminded me a bit of the John Green book Looking for Alaska, but then again, not much and the wallflower book preceded it and how much is there to write about it YA fiction? A Beautiful Mind was great! ADBC was fun!

                                        69) The Lake of the Dead(1958)

Punx was pretty great and all, even if it was just Norwegian celebrities talking about how punk they used to be. TFA was a lot of CGI effects and loud noises. The plot wasn't that good though and it was a pretty meh movie. I liked the new Yoda though, she was pretty cool. I think the characters themselves were interesting, the new ones and it was cool to see the oldies back, but a lot of the plot was just fucking dumb. WSS was really long and there was a lot of dancing! A lot of dancing! The songs were pretty good though and their take on Romeo and Juliet was interesting. Cake was pretty cool, nothing special, but not terrible. I enjoyed Annie Hall! I guess, I enjoy everything Woody is in. I love that stepchild boning weirdo! More Freudian mumbo jumbo in the Lake of the Dead. Old Norwegian movies are the greatest! And is there anything better than a Freudian Horror ghost story?

I'm gonna try to figure out a top list of these movies!

                                        1) Ed Wood
                                        2) The Number 23
                                        3) Female Trouble
                                        4) The Man Who Knew too Little
                                        5) OC87
                                        6) Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf?
                                        7) Filmage
                                        8) Matchstick Men
                                        9) Annie Hall
                                        10) The Lake of the Dead

                                        Top list of 2015

                                        1) Love and Mercy
                                        2) Paper Towns
                                        3) Pitch Perfect 2
                                        4) It Follows
                                        5) Ted 2
                                        6) The Force Awakens
                                        7) Kung Fury
                                        8) Klovn Forever

I didn't count Punx as it was a Tv Documentary in the top list of 2015, maybe I shouldn't have counted Kung Fury either, but except for L&M, this was a pretty shitty year for movies. I guess, every year is, or I just miss the good ones. Last year was kind of good, now that I look back at it.
