Super late to the thread. The special was ok but I do enjoy the self references to older reboot episodes and older series in general. This was a bit too much sap. I would have liked it better if they saved Craig or even a Martha or Capt Jack for one of these. I like the CS Lewis books a lot and can appreciate paying homage but last time I checked there have been 3 Narnia movies and a series saving SNL Digital short since the Doctor Who reboot. So it's not like we need to be informing the public that these books exist. Also I wish they just borrowed from that but they had to do take the Ents out of LOTR. What's next? Homages to Star Trek and Star Wars or are they not in the public consciousness enough? And I agree, the writing needs to be tighter. I hate to think that there are two people that were in a plane about to crash spinning around in the vortex and shit. Hey maybe that's what the Master saw when he was a kid and thinks humans are pinballs? Eh....
Anyways, I would write off the Ponds by using the "River" effect and have her tell the Doctor how they perished or died or waited for him one last time. Kind of like that girl in the fireplace episode. That would be fucking epically sad and I'm thinking that could crack Lush's tiny walnut heart. (I kid LushJ, Amy is as annoying as she is beautiful). Or it could be sad and happy and he could download them in that library computer where River is. Shit you guys died? Time to upload you and you can have digital reunion with your daughter FOREVER. Eh....
As far as regenerations go, the 11th in one of the Sarah Jane Adventures episodes (the one with Jo Grant!!!) mentions that he can regenerate hundreds of times. I'm thinking the Time Lords must have imposed some kind of term limit after learning about FDR....
