Seeding Stage
Cleptic: Pains of Being Pure at Heart "Teenager in Love": I kind of hate that I like this band because I'm so embarrassed by their completely wretched name. Anyway, this is an upbeat yet somber song that of course sounds like a Smiths song, with a little bit of a 50's chick band feel. 8/10
Gurt: New Order "Dreams Never End": This is a really catchy New Order song. Sounds like a Cure song accompanied by an Ian Curtis impersonation. One of the best New Order songs. 9/10
Billy: Billy's station won't play right now. That huge fake baseball fake salary seems to have had a negative impact on his work habits.
DocAc: Night Birds "Thrilling Murder": Pretty cool surfy punk rock song. This is as solid as Sears. 7/10
Moe: House Boat "DC Showcase Presents: Inferiority Complex 420": This is not a cup of tea that I would choose to drink from, but it is absolutely competent and no harm done. 5/10
Concept: Uncle Tupelo "I Wanna Be Your Dog": I noticed that Concept hasn't been on Last FM since June of last year, and the last thing he listened to was the Sick Sick Birds Heavy Manners record? Did we turn Conrad off of the Last-FM?! Anyway, I am not at all a fan of Uncle Tupelo, but I am completely amused and entertained by this bluegrass rendition of a punk rock classic. 7/10
Quint: Smoking Popes "Pretty Pathetic": This is live, people are cheering like crazy. They are singing right along. This is just electric guitar and voice a la Billy Bragg. Now people are clapping along. It's somewhat embarrassing. I'm not sure why, but I'm embarrassed. These people really like this song. This is a good pop song. 6/10
Milo: Dave House "Born Steady": Well, we've clearly entered an acoustic portion of the seeding process here. There might be times when I'm in the mood for this, but it's definitely not right now. 4/10
Elliott: Black Wine "Haunted": Is this a cover? It sounds somehow familiar. Kind of a garagey spooked out rock song. I am enjoying this. 7/10
Greg: Roman Line "With Friends Like You, Who Needs Firewood?": This sounds like a Social Distortion song. It does not seem all that unexpected to hear the line "triple whiskey rocks." This is a decent song, but that's awfully cliche. I bet the reviews of this record refer to "whiskey-soaked vocals." 5/10
Shotzi: Tegan and Sara "I Bet it Stung": I've never heard this song before. Wow, this is a very pretty pop song. The vocals are a little distorted and awesome. In a way the vocals remind me of Smashing Pumpkins. The chorus is huge sounding. This is really good. 8/10
Soapy Mofo: Alkaline Trio "Warbrain": This has some good stuff in it, but I'm uncomfortable with the starty-stoppy verse and the production. It's just so... accessible and marketable. 5/10
Pshaw: The Paperbacks "A Hawthorne Sublet": This is kinda interesting. It's a pop-punky but countrypunkish song with a honkytonky piano. Nice and short. I'm intrigued. Pretty decent. 6/10
Billy: Sonic Avenues "Waiting for Your Call": Razory trebled out guitars and garagey sound with droney vocals. Cool melodies, agreeable harmonies. There's an organ in the bridge part that sounds kinda neat. This is enjoyable. Yup. This is a really good song. 8/10
Noah: Kudrow "Favreau": This is a fuzzy pop punk song. The vocals remind me of Panthro UK United 13 a little bit. 7/10
Blackface: Toys That Kill "The White Lies": It's hard to listen to Toys That Kill and not bop your head. The songs are just right for bopping your head. As a matter of fact, I'm bopping my head right now. Also, TTK is a band that I enjoy infinitely more listening one song at a time, rather than listening to an entire album. A solid song. 7/10
Kelly Lynn: For Science "Leeloo": This is a straight-forward punk rock song that's moderately enjoyable and very brief. 6/10
Xtian: The Tattle Tales "So Wanna Kiss You": Aw man, this is Xtian's band. Xtian and I have different taste in music. This is really well done, but just not my thing. It would be a great song for a commercial advertising a mall. Xtian is a fine fellow, though. 2/10
Weddy: The Side Project "Get a New Brain": Well, this certainly sounds like a band that enjoys Screeching Weasel a lot. 1/10
Cakes: The Measure "Revisionist": This song is fun and well done. 6/10
Josh: The Dillinger Escape Plan "43% Burnt": I didn't know that this is what Dillinger Escape Plan sounds like. Huh. Pretty crazy. I can appreciate it, but would never want to listen to it. The more intricate parts remind me a little of Transilience or Voivod. 4/10
PDR: Blur "Song 2": This song has partly been ruined by its prevalence during downtime at sports events. Kinda like Blitzkrieg Bop. I don't know if I can really give this song a fair shake. I guess, at its core, I genuinely don't really enjoy this much. 5/10
Matt Average Teenage Bottlerocket "Not OK": This is a Teenage Bottlerocket song that sounds like a bunch of other Teenage Bottlerocket songs. It's got the guy with the Kermit/Frog voice singing it. 1/10
Jettrocks Tiffany "I Think We're Alone Now": Uggh. Didn't Tiffany go to a Snuff show once and sing this with them? 1/10
