I very nearly lost my shit during the Charlie/Claire scene.  Until that moment, I didn't realize I even gave a shit about Charlie and Claire, but as it turns out, I give a LOT of shit about them!

HA! Yeh it was nice to see a lot of those moments. I always wanted JAck and Kate to be together and Sawyer and Juliet just make sense. Shannon and Sayid was interesting because I (and I think all of us) just assumed they always meant he was supposed to be with Nadia.

yeah, i knew that the "flash sideways" was gunna piss me off, i didn't expect much from it at all. i thought it was really goddamn lame when all of the sudden Jin and Sun could speak english because they remembered the island. as soon as i heard Ben's exchange with Hurley and Christian Sheppard with jack i knew we were in for some bullshit.

the on island stuff was ok though, all of them getting to the plane was pretty suspenseful but i kinda feel like Locke was killed off way too easily.

but yeah, a hurley and ben spinoff would be awesome.
i've been "violated" with a finger before and i didn't find it painful or revolting, just shocked that it was happening when it happened.

I am ultimately reserving judgment until I stew on it some more.  Right now, the ending defied any expectations I had that I am having trouble really gauging how I feel about it.

Yeh I think this is why I feel satisfied. They surprised me once again. AND they gave the characters (and myself as a viewer) closure.

Haha, I was relatively unmoved by anything other than the fact that Jack died with a dog next to him.

agreed!

Everything you just named = the stuff I absolutey loved.  Locke and Ben's moment was so fucking great.  It was so nice to see Locke so happy.  Hurley and Ben's scene was awesome too, and as Lucas implied, sent my imagination reeling about their adventures together.  Damn.  You know... there was a HELL of a lot to love about this episode!!

I still think it was a really good episode until the last 10 minutes or so. The ending is not growing on me

Did they really get their redemption in sideways land? I mean, Sayid is still a killer, Charlie is a heroin addicted mess, Kate's going to prison, Sawyer hasn't resolved anything re: Anthony Cooper. None of the story of the flash sideways had anything to do with it's resolution. Literally anything could have happened before that last 5 minutes and it would have been equally relevant to finding each other and blah blah blah.

This season would have been way better if the flash sideways had been completely scrapped and a lot of the ideas and mysteries of the island had been explored more or even GASP explained at all. If the sideways stories weren't even part of the show, an ending with Jack just dying while the plane flew away would have been fine.

I don't think they got redemption as much as they "made peace" with themselves or something.  I dunno, I also think that's dumb and definitely doesn't fit into every sideways situation, but I just think it's a case of somewhat sloppy story telling at the end where the device they wanted to use as this whole reconnecting limbo purgatory thing turned out to be more complicated and less understandable than maybe it should have been.

On the ABC lost forum, people are pissed because they never explained why there were polar bears.

Agreed, mostly.  I think the point makes sense, but the stories in the side-flashes kind of worked against the point at times.

Sayid... maybe all he really wanted was for Nadia to be happy and free from the horrible effects of his demons, yknow?  Although it was a little dumb that they switched it up so Shanon was his true love again

Their redemption was saving the island (or playing a part in it) and getting back to the ones they had to give up in order to do that. (READ WHAT CHADD WROTE LAST PAGE)

I think Sayid's thing was realizing he wasn't a bad guy.  It makes his story this season dumb, but that's pretty much what they said.

Agreed.

Very few of the characters actually redeemed themselves by the end...but all played a part in saving the island in one way or another.

Well, the stories in the island timeline kind of worked against it too, especially with Locke implying pretty heavily that he was involved in the sideways world when he told Sayid he could give him his love back.

Oh one thing I am so disappointed about is that Jack didn't turn into an ass-kicking smoke monster which, for a few minutes, I was absolutely sure was going to happen.

I just really think this season suffered too much from Shyamalan Syndrome. The creators were too busy trying to outsmart the audience with the "flash sideways" than to wrap up all the loose ends the way they should have.

Haha, best part of the episode. In my mind the Mortal Kombat theme started playing.

That's what I thought at the time too, and I suspect that's what they wanted us to believe.  But I guess he was just saying he could get her back once they got off the island.

I'm curious as to what the horrible havoc would be if MiB got off the island.  And if destroying the island would destroy the world, why would he want to do that if what he wanted was to go live a life in the real world?

Maybe this is a dumb complaint but I still don't like that the last few episodes have rendered some of the things that seemed important at one point totally meaningless (like, remember when we found out the plane crashed because Desmond didn't press the button? Does that even make sense or matter anymore?)
