do you mean simply filing online through irs.gov? doesn't the turbo tax software help you figure stuff out? because the only reason i want to do this is that apparently to me, the explanations in the irs instructions were unclear and i missed a rather large deduction...maybe i don't understand what turbo tax does?

no, i mean if you go to tubotax.com you can use their program online. you don't have to buy anything from a store.does turbo tax deluxe give you both? i just find the best discount i can to use turbo tax for my federal, but i don't use it for state. i file my state return on the maryland comptroller's website - it's free and you only need to enter a few pieces of data from your w2s and your federal return. not sure if other states have a similar option.
