iTunes Shuffle Vol. 1 Million.0
« on: February 25, 2011, 06:15:50 PM »
1. Lemuria "Single Mother" My favorite song of the year so far I think.
2. Groovie Ghoulies "(The Girl Is A) Unsolved Mystery" I love Travels With My Amp.
3. Squirtgun "Never Fit" I used to love this album but was kinda bored when I saw them again at Insub 09.
4. The Ergs! "Every Romance Language" One of their best songs!
5. Muffs "End It All" I was super bummed I had to work when they played recently, I've been on a huge kick lately.
6. Teenage Bottlerocket "Go Go" Another Way is the best TBR record hands down.
7. Pansy Division "Kissed" Great lyrics in this one, they totally ruled at Insub 09.
8. Modern Machines "I Are Ropeless" This was Nato's best band. Not Nato's best song.
9. Murderburgers "Social Leper" Quick and over.
10. The Briefs "Ouch Ouch Ouch" I wish they were still a band. Insub 11!
11. The Beatles "Run For Your Life" Good enough.
12. Zatopeks "Amy Tonight" Why do I miss this band every single time they come to the states?
13. Caddy "This Good Feeling" Such a great song from such a great album. I think a lot of people would like the harmonies and hooks on this album.
14. Red Dons "Superficial" I don't listen to this band nearly enough.
15. The Zombies "Beechwood Park" One of the best pop albums of all time.
16. Gamits "Song About A Song" Talk about bands that should headline Insub 11.
17. Travoltas "Let's Go Away" One of the few bands I never got a chance to see and probably never will. Bummed.
18. The Vindictives "In Pursuit" One of my favorites off of Hypno Punko. And the same that I said about The Travoltas goes for the Vindictives.
19. The Creeps "Correction Facility" This is a Fear Of Lipstick cover, right? Or is it the other way around.
20. Lemuria "Lick Your Lips" When Sheena and Alex sing at the same time it is gold. Pure gold.

Mike Milbury's breath probably smells like coffee, pepperoni and Rick Dipietro.

you like "single mother" more than "lemons"?
"lemons" and "chautauqua county" are my favorites from them this year

"single mother" is my favorite right now, it is always stuck in my head. I love "Lemons" and "Chautauqua County" too though.

1. Honey Bee - Muddy Waters
2. #12 Looks Just Like You - Hunchback
3. Paper Bag - Fiona Apple
4. Enjoy Yourself (It's Later Than You Think) - The Specials
5. Une Annee Sans Lumiere - Arcade Fire
6. Cactus - Pixies
7. I Wanna Destroy You - Circle Jerks
8. The Beat - Elvis Costello
9. Old Dogs - Midtown Dickens
10. My Strange Uncles From Abroad - Gogol Bordello
11. Selfless, Cold And Composed - Ben Folds Five
12. Long Haired Country Boy - Charlie Daniels Band
13. Siriustar - Deerhoof
14. Up In Heaven (Not Only Here) - The Clash
15. Superstition - Stevie Wonder
16. This Land Is Your Land - Mojo Nixon
17. People Got A Lotta Nerve - Neko Case
18. Your Emotions - Dead Kennedys
19. Violent School - The Dead Milkmen
20. Hey Joe - The Jimi Hendrix Experience

i too enjoy Lemons more than single mothers, but am not shocked at opinions to the contrary. everything lemuria does is genius and different songs hit different people more than others. Trivial Greek Mythology will probably always be my favorite overall. Of the stuff they put out this year it's probably Chataqua County.
and it feels like punishment, but i don't know what for.

i really liked Used Kids as well. they really both had similar sounds as you had both Nato and Dan in both groups. i feel like Modern Machines only win out because they had more recorded material available. but "Working" and "Midwest Midsummer" are easily on par with some of the best of Modern Machines stuff. what's nato doing currently? i haven't seen or heard anything from him in forever. and it's a damn shame cuz the man is a genius and if nothing else a great showman. even if he doesn't have any new material to promote he should totally go on a greatest hits tour.

I am pretty sure he is going on tour soon, i forget the name of the group he put together.

1. "Move On Up" - Curtis Mayfield: This song could get me psyched to bury my dog. So good. Makes me think of Dennis running through the streets of Baltimore. 10/10
2. "Swallow That" - Superchunk: Mid-range 'chunk song. Not a favorite, but I like it fine. 6/10
3. "Some of These Days" - Billie Holiday: This is a rehearsal of the song. She's killing it. I want to have sex with her dead body. 7/10 (song is incomplete)
4. "Apeman" - Kinks: Top 5 song on my favorite Kinks' album. Excellent. 9/10
5. "I Need You (For Someone)" - The Jam: Fantastic song. It's been too long since I listened to this album. I want to stop shuffling now and start this from the beginning. 9/10
6. "Heart of the City" - Nick Lowe: One of the best. 10/10
7. "Words I Might Have Ate" - Greenday: I've always liked this song alright. 7/10
8. "Sweet Sweet" - Smashing Pumpkins: Hmm... Haven't heard this in a while. It's kind of pretty. 6/10
9. "Hammer I Miss You" - Jay Reatard: Great song. This could be a nine on a different day. 8/10
10. "Secret Army" - Cocksparer: Love it. This album doesn't have a song below a seven. 8/10

Bonus Track:
"We're Getting Closer To the Grave Each Day" - Hank Williams: That's the truth. 10/10

amen on move on up. it always boggles my mind that you mention curtis mayfield and everybody usually just starts singing "superfly". great song/soundtrack as though it may be. move on up is definitely his crowning moment. though it's often dampened when you get some kid who never bothered learning about what came out before whatever mainstream radio/tv throws at them being all "what the fuck did they do to this kanye song yo?"
and it feels like punishment, but i don't know what for.

Heh. I didn't even know Kanye sampled it. Curtis ruled.

1. Watch Me Jumpstart - Guided By Voices
2. Your Summer Dresses Bore Me - Weston
3. You Were Right - Built To Spill (i hardly know any of the words to this song, but the cadence? whatever you'd call the rhythym lyrics are delivered at stuck in my head. possibly my favorite of theirs)
4. The Right Profile - The Clash (my wife who is all about old movies hates that the only thing i know about montgomery clift is he's name dropped in this song)
5. Crackhead Drillbits - Prizzy Prizzy Please
6. Fu Manchu - Desmond Dekker
7. Keep Ya Head Up - 2Pac
8. Rolodex Propaganda - At The Drive In
9. In Keeping Secrets Of Silent Eart: 3 - Coheed & Cambria (song is over 8 minutes but i almost never skip it)
10. Mephiskapheles - Mephiskapheles
11. Who Would Understand A Turtle? - Lemuria
12. Knock 'Em Out - Lily Allen
13. Ebony (Bread Helps) - Emilyn Brodsky
14. Communication Breakdown - Led Zeppelin
15. The Con - Tegan & Sara
16. I Know You Well - Face to Face (for some reason despite mostly just having a bunch of outdated crap my public library had a copy of the album this was on right around when it came out. i would take it out regularly and feel like i'm 12 or 13 again every time i hear a track from it)
17. Moment In The Sun - Clem Snide
18. Birth Of A Hooligan - The Trojans
19. theme from The Dukes Of Hazzard - Waylon Jennings
20. Baby Beluga - The Timid Roosevelts (not a cover of the more famous Raffi song with the same name. this band should have way more of a fanatical following than they do. while i'm super distraught Full Of Fancy is disbanding i know that there's a worthy band to take up the mantle of adorable indie punk)
and it feels like punishment, but i don't know what for.

Been It - Cardigans - Such a fun little pop song
Hindu Times - Oasis - Decent song, dont really love the album its on so I never listen to it
The Good Witch of the North - Everclear - oh boy - this is bad and I loved Everclear
Clean Water - The Agency - Fair, certainly nowhere near their best work
Eat Dinner, Bury The Dog, And Run - Polar Bear Club - something I downloaded due to the hype and didnt really dig
Hi- Speed Soul - Nada Surf - so good - love this album
Doomsday Parade - Cobra Skulls - I've been a big kick lately, so this is a sweet hit
Mass Hysteria (live) - Social Distortion - Never really got into this song - filler track for me on a great live album
The Martyr - Cursive - ahhh college - I still get down to this ever now and again
The Oregon Trail - The Riot Before - really like this song, and this album
Section 2(It's the Sun) - Polyphonic Spree - I love this stuff when I'm in the mood for it - just not now
Communication Is the Key - Charlie Brown Gets A Valentine - classic
I Won't Back Down - Tom Petty - I love all the old Petty hits
Closer to Me - Two Cow Garage - really like this album, but this song bores me
Uncorrected Proofs - Weakerthans - This is off a perfect album - so good
Failing, Failing - Streelight Manifesto - it's ska
Pervert At Large - Screeching Weasel - its ok, not the best stuff of the album
Masterpiece (live) - Bayside - I probably like this band more than anyone else on this bored
Gotta Know the Rules - Social Distortion - I like this song better than the other SD track
Mastering the List - RX Bandits - this is from when they werent ska anymore - I dig it.
I hope AIDS sticks around forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  MORE AIDS!!!!!!!!

i like the live version of mass hysteria a lot. live at the roxy is indeed a great live album. the studio version of mass hysteria is pretty flat and lacks any of the urgency of the live one or y'know the sort of urgency one would think a song about a buttload of people trying to escape a sniper with the high ground should illicit. which album is the charlie brown gets a valentine song from? i have and love commencement and dismissed, but am not familiar with that particular track.

4.Carla Thomas-When Tomorrow Comes-Strong soul sound here.Great classic Stax sound.
5.Material Issue-Out Right Now-Not my favorite from this record but decent power pop.
6.The Go-Gos-Beautiful-One of the new songs recorded for the Return to the valley of the go-gos 2xcd set. Pretty good.

i wouldn't call "mess with the bulls" an average piebald song. it's in my top three which i don't know the exact order of but consists of that, american hearts and if marcus garvey dies. but to each their own.

here's this mornings:
1. Less Than - The Grains
2. Star Struck One - Smoking Popes
3. One Step Beyond - Madness
4. Evil Vs. Good - Clem Snide (from the same album that includes "Moment In The Sun" that everybody mentioned in the Ed tv show thread)
5. Journey To The Center Of A Girl - The Cramps
6. New Coat Of Paint - Tom Waits ("fishing for a good time starts with throwing in your line" brilliant. i don't have a top five bands/artists it pretty much changes by mood but Costello and Waits are my only constants at 1 and 2 respectively)
7. Getchoo - Weezer (certainly not the best pinkerton track, but would rather listen to it than almost anything from an album after that)
8. The Hazards Of Love 3 (Revenge) - The Decemberists
9. Phaser - Superdrag
10. Melt Your Heart - Jenny Lewis
11. E-Pro - Beck
12. The Blame - Agnostic Front
13. Black and Blue - Bombtown (love anytime they have a cameo from Ras Paul. really wish he and his band recorded stuff before disbanding)
14. Never Going Back To New Jersey - Less Than Jake
15. Expert Herder - Lemuria (this and Ozzy are my two favorite things they've done post Get Better)
16. I'll Be Fine - The Copyrights
17. The Excessive Machine - The Unidentified
18. Latifah's Had It Up To Here - Queen Latifah
19. Orange Blossom Special - Charlie Daniels Band (not sure if it's a different recording or different artist entirely, but a song that's very similar but not quite the same is playing during the big chase scene in Smokey & The Bandit)
20. Pocket Calculator - Kraftwerk
and it feels like punishment, but i don't know what for.
