Shaq's newish book.
Like, the male animals should be made to wear skirts and wigs and stuff, and the females should go past a line of builders who make cat-calls at them and whistle loudly in their direction.

I used to have an erotic pulp book by Roald Dahl called "Switch Bitch."  It wasn't anything special, though it really blew my mind when I saw it at the antique store in a box of a bunch of other old erotic books.
Ice cream was a cold delicacy that could be made from beebleberries.

Finished The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, which is so much better than either movie. Started Carry On, Jeeves the other day. Got The True Adventures of The Rolling Stones in the mail today. Bookz!

the swedish movie blew, and i can't imagine that the US movie was any better.  book was pretty okay though.

My Uncle Oswald is the money adult story. It's about Oswald and some woman traveling the world and raping people like Einstein, Freud, Picasso and a half dozen kings. It is easily the rapiest story I have ever read. It's all humorous rape though, so there's that.
I think Switch Bitch had one or two Uncle Oswald stories in it (with a sort of rape twist in the one I can remember about some rich desert guy and his hot wife and daughter).

Yes, it did have the desert story.  I don't remember too much about it though!

The best of the four in Switch Bitch might have been that brutal and fucked up revenge story.

For fans of Erik Larson and other narrative non-fiction authors.   Here's a good description of it from Publishers Weekly:

Although the official history of the Jewish Brigade Group (a unit of some 5,000 Jews who fought with the British Eighth Army in Italy in the waning months of the conflict) has been written, Howard Blum breaks new ground by looking into the clandestine operations that occurred after the shooting had stopped.

Once they learned the true extent of the holocaust, soldiers of the brigade began using intelligence reports to pinpoint the location of former SS officers and camp guards. The enraged Jewish troops took vengeance into their own hands, eventually slaying hundreds of Nazi death dealers. Blum follows the story of three men Israel Carmi, Johanan Peltz and Arie Pinchuk in detail, interviewed dozens of others, read unpublished personal memoirs and had Hebrew-language documents translated for him. During the war, the more daring Jewish soldiers formed a secret unit that appropriated British supplies trucks, weapons and food and diverted them to ships heading illegally for Palestine

The plan included the "repatriation" of thousands of war orphans, who were clandestinely taken from displaced person camps and smuggled to Palestine.

I recently read brave new world after putting off reading it for years. Now I am reading an anthology of science fiction I bought just because I thought the cover art was cool. Actually, mostly I read books and articles about voting behaviour, but after April I can get back to reading more non-academic stuff.

For those of you who are interested, here's the cover of the science fiction book.

These are kind of infuriating.

I don't want to read them all back to back and get burned out on them or not read anything else for two or three months straight, but, I also just want to keep reading the damn things.

I liked the book a lot. Swedish movie did blow. Fincher version followed the book better, so it was an improvement, but that's about it. I figure I'll read the other two someday but everyone is all down on them compared to the first.

After I catch up with whatever the most recent book is? Only a couple of things have felt even slightly out of place or dropped so far, but I'm only managing to put maybe one other random book in between reading these things, so it's not like long enough in between these things to forget them.

I've only read the first, but everyone I know has boners over how much better it gets in the second and third books. They don't agree on which of those is the best, though.

Feast for Crows is when side stories start coming in more. I wish i could forget those first 3 books just so i could read them again for the first time.

Dragon tattoo: the 2nd and 3rd book are kind of like one book; they share the same story/plot stuff; whereas the first book was pretty seperate as in it contained a complete story. they're all worth reading

I was watching a PBS special about some mastodon tragedy and they kept talking about dire wolves. That didn't help me not want to start the next one as soon as possible.

the other two complete the whole salander back story, and the pages definitely keep on turning.  i enjoyed reading them well enough at the time.

i do feel like the whole thing goes off the rails at some point though.  even though i enjoyed reading through them at the time, understanding the whole picture sort of diminished the whole enterprise a little.  it's kind of like how the star wars prequels actively made the original trilogy seem less awesome.

this sounds real good.

This DOES sound real good.

I am about to start Drive by James Sallis. From what I understand it's quite different from the movie, which I loved.

I started reading Chelsea, Chelsea, Bang, Bang, but her humor doesn't really translate to prose well.

I haven't really been in the mood to read much. I'm listening to the Scarlet Letter though.

I would argue that her humor doesn't translate to humor well.

I finished Drive in a day. I don't really have an opinion of it. It was good, and different from the movie, but it just made me wish I was watching the movie the whole time. I don't get the heaps of praise this book apparently got.

Now I am reading Nightmare Town by Dashiell Hammett
