cedar point is only about an 8 hour drive from the NJ/NYC area.  you can do the entire place in about a day and a half.  its more than worth the drive.  they have a sweet waterpark too!

Its like 10+ if you're trying to leave from the city, I think.  We drove from Brooklyn to Cleveland and it took over 14 but that was mostly due to driving through Southern upstate New York instead of Pennsylvania.

cedar point > everything

For coasters, there is nothing even close.  I haven't been there in so long, though.

Doom is intense. For like, the 12 seconds it lasts. Seriously, if the wait is longer than 10, 15 minutes, don't bother. Hulk is the most awesome coaster they have, the most fun, but also the most intense. Dueling dragons The Dragon Challenge(renamed for harry potter, I guess?) is really fun, it's one of the feet dangly numbers. The Mummy is just super fun, not even really a coaster, more like a really fast theme ride. You go backwards though and there's fire on the ceiling! Shit's cool.

Of course, I'm not the best gauge on what a 12 year old would like, I was already really in to roller coasters at the point.

This might be the best coaster I have ever ridden.  It's not super tall or anything but it uses pneumatic/magnetic launch and the speeds and air and twists are phenomenal.

last rumor I read about a new coaster in Disney was that they were going to try a Monsters Inc. coaster in Hollywood studios.  dont know any details.  and when the new fantasyland opens up in Magic Kingdom. Its supposed to have a revamped "Snow White" ride.  It goes through the 7 dwarfs' jewel mine, and I think its using the same Technology as the Dinosaur and Indiana Jones ride.

It's the greatest.  THE GREATEST.  Looking at it, you'd be like, "oh whatever, it looks like a steel tube coaster, NBD", but then you're on it and all "HOLY SHIT DID I JUST FLY THROUGH THE ENDING OF 2001 A SPACE ODYSSEY???"

I think Disney just dumped all their money into making Star Wars awesome.

Rip Ride Rockit might be too much for a young kid.  That lift hill is fucking ridiculous and would probably be too terrifying for a young one.  I almost shit my pants on it and I don't give a fuck about shit at all.

the scariest climb i've ever been on was fahrenheit at hershey park.  its straight up so all you can see is the sky and the person in front of you's head.  there's no telling when it might end.  so awesome

Same sort of climb on Rip Ride Rockit.  90 degrees straight up.  I can't imagine doing that to a kid ever.

I never got on a roller coaster after my first trip to Cedar Point.

The dragster had just opened and it was spraying metal shards on to the crowd below. Fun times.
