Since it's pretty dead around these quarters lately, I've thought of a new last fm tournament to help me pass the time while I am at work.

Last FM penalty shootout for football (soccer). Head to head games. If you get a 7 for a song, you "score" a goal. Less than 7 and you miss. Winner is the most goals out of 5, like in real football. Goes to dead heat if scores are level after 5.

Who's in? I'll take 8 or 16 if a lot wanna play. I'll probably do a game or two per day.

Round1: Cleptron Vs Moe

Shot one:

Cleptron: Camper Van Beethoven- "Take the Skinheads Bowling"- Never heard this band before. I know they're always talked about alongside college rock though. It reminds me of Pixies if they were much more radio friendly. Passable but nothing spectacular. It's over pretty soon too. 6/10

Moe: The Exploding Hearts- "I'm a Pretender"- I haven't heard this LP in too long. Fucking awesome. 9/10

Shot Two:

Cleptron: Psychadelic Furs- "All That Money Wants"- Never properly got into this band, but always liked this one. 8/10

Moe: This Bike is a Pipe Bomb- "Jack Johnson"- Not a massive plan-it x person. 6/10

Shot Three:

Cleptron: House Boat- "Payment Plan"- Has self-pity ever been so catchy? For some reason it took me a good while to get into that EP but it's as good as the album really. 8/10

Moe: The Ergs!- "Short Stories"- Nowhere near their best, but it's still The Ergs. 7/10

Shot Four:

Cleptron: XTC- "Senses Working Overtime"- Hit and miss band for me. Bit too corny, this one. 5/10

Moe: Reigning Sound- "You're not as pretty"- Sweet song. Making a mental note to check out this band more. 7/10

Shot Five:

Cleptron: Ramones- "Teenage Lobotomy"- Yeah, ok. 9/10

Moe: Otis Redding- "Respect"- Damn. You have both pulled out a good couple of belters for the last shot. Perfect song. 10/10

But alas it's too little too late for Cleptron as Moe more than matches him in the last shot. Final score: Moe 4 Cleptron 3. Moe is through to the next round.

Round 1: Socky v Elliott

Shot One:

Socky: Scared of Chaka- "Schoolboy"- I would like to dance now 7/10

Elliott: Dear Landlord- "Three to the Beach"- 10/10

Shot Two:

Socky: Atom and His Package- "I, Professional Gambler"- Not my thing. 4/10

Elliott: Iron Chic- "Every Town has an Elm Street"- Such a great album ender. Elliott is pulling some hits. 9/10

Shot Three:

Socky: For Science- "Headaches"- Probably my favourite FS song. Just beautiful. 9/10

Elliott: Rivethead- "In my heart, a warehouse..."- Calm down, Elliot. 9/10

2-3

Shot Four:

Socky: Chixdiggit!- "I Remember You"- I never really got Chixdiggit and this song is silly, but in an insanely catchy way. Fuck you, Chixdiggit. 8/10

Elliott: Banner Pilot- "Central Standard"- I swear this album is perfect. "How'd another year turn out so bad?" 9/10

3-4

Shot Five:

Socky: Against Me!- "Baby, I'm an Anarchist!"- I go through phases of hating and loving this band. I always enjoy this one though. 8/10

Elliott: The Copyrights- "Sleepwalker"- This is a good couple of levels below everything else so far you have played but unfortunately for Socky it's still a score. 7/10

4-5

Milo10 the cat is distraught for his owner Socky, but it's Elliott who advances. Close match. Good game, guys. Final score: 4-5

Well met, I agree with all these rules except scared of chaka's school boy. That song's so amazing, if it's not a ten then a ten doesn't exist.
