Match 1

wench : Josh Ritter - Southern Pacifica : Ahh, typical wench. I've tried may times to get into this guy. He's got a good voice, very soothing. I guess I'd rate this as something I'd put on and forget about. And if that sounds only like a half compliment then this score makes sense. 5/10

cleptic : Minor Threat - Straight Edge : haha. maybe this wasn't such a good idea after all. 10/10.

Wins: 0-1
Points: 5-10

Match 2

patrick : Woods - White Out : Hmm, cool psych-folk. I like all the individual parts to this (the guitar, the ghostly harmonies, the drums). Not sure if it blends together as well as they want it to, but it's definitely trippy and has potential to be much more. Pretty sure I've heard this band/band name before. Will have to investigate further though. 7/10

squinty : Gang Green - Have Fun : I made an 80s punk mix with like 30 essential punk bands represetned. This band was not it. Still, can't really deny 52 seconds of hardcore punk about having fun. 5/10

Wins: 1-1
Points: 12-15

Match 3

rogneeb : The Civil Wars - Poison & Wine : LOVE the girl's voice in this. That being said, does she have any solo material? Or sing stuff without the guy? Not that he's a poor singer. Just that this would be perfect without him. Good build and climax and fade out. 7/10

gurt : Underground Railroad To Candyland - Living In A Straw (The Summer of Fraud) : Yes, I like this band more than Toys That Kill. Not my fav off that album, but still real good. There's something very basic and simple about this stuff, but at the same time it's kinda original. 7/10

God, there better not be too many tie-breakers in this tourney. It's already TOO EPIC.

gurt : Full Of Fancy - He's Mean : One of my more recent fav bands. Too bad they broke up. I mean, this track probably ranks near the bottom of my list of favorites, but still can't do worse than a 6/10

rogneeb : Sarah Jaffe - Perfect Plan : What's up with hot girls with great voices? Hmmm. Well, I guess I like this as much as if not more than the Civil Wars. The starting and stopping, the piano riff, the acoustic guitar, the voice. 7/10

Wins: 2-1
Points: 19-21

Mike Milbury's breath probably smells like coffee, pepperoni and Rick Dipietro.

Match 4

thisotherkingdom : TV on the Radio - You : Hit and miss band with me. But their hits really hit. I like the pulsing beat, and melody is actually really good. The synth stuff is cool, but it also sounds like there's a subway train constantly rolling into the station. 6/10

noah wk: The Ramones - Rockaway Beach : Number of threads about the Ramones on page 1 of the PPMB at any given time: 7. Fun tune, though. 7/10

Wins: 2-2
Points: 25-28

Round 5

twoguns : My Morning Jacket - Holdin On To Black Metal : Pretty groovy, although I prefer the more straight forward "rock band" stuff they do over this fairly crowded song. I wish the guitar was more forward in the mix. 6/10

big bobby : Sonic Avenues - I Want You Now : Here's the power pop that rogneeb was looking for. Although this has got some punk/garage in the mix. I wish MMJ wrote songs like this. I should probably look more into this band, as this track has the catchy, speedy, spunky stuff that I devour. 7/10

Wins: 2-3
Points: 31-35

Match 6

radcliffe : Everybody Else - Rich Girls, Poor Girls : Solid reg-rock with a little power pop kick. Energy, good chorus, and little to no wank. I'll probably not tire of this anytime soon,, and I'm salivating at the possibility that they have songs even better than this. 7/10

boobiedewton : Riverdales - I Will Make It Up To You: Regular ramonescore with no kick at all. Trying to find something redeeming here, but yeesh. There's probably a half-dozen Riverdales songs I would rate 7/10 or higher. This is quite a few levels below that. 4/10

Wins: 4-3
Points: 47-47

Match 7

toots : Farben - Raute : Microhouse! Such a perfect name for what this sounds like! Do I need to say more? It's cute little blips and bips, layered and technical. Not much of a melody and no major theme within the 7+ minutes to latch onto. Not very enjoyable. 3/10

read hard : McRackins - Pressed Ham : This is kinda funny. Gotta love that one acoustic ballad from a joke band. Expressing their love with a pressed ham. This is one of the better McRrackins songs I've heard. That being said, 4/10

Wins: 4-4
Points: 50-51

Hahaha, go Mcrackins. I love how we're being so typically pop punk too.
'ello, guvnor!  Care for a spot of tea, then?  Why, I'll just nip up the apples and pears for a spanner, because I'm milo10 and I'm a complete git!

Match 8

dalen : New Order - Age of Consent : The first 90 seconds of this song is just 80s pop rock - solid and bouncy but ultimately fluff and non-captivating. But when the synth comes in and guitar takes a turn everything just works, man. So much dance rock stand on the shoulders of these guys (for better for worse). Love everything coming together at the end. Especially the foot clomps(?) adding to the percussion. 9/10

moe: Future Virgins - Nowadays : This band is tagged as both orgcore and pop punk. One of my pet peeves. There's parts with really good vocals doing a fairly good job carrying the tune. Then there's the beardo scream vox that jar my ears. Dear bands, please don't ruin your own songs with vocals like this, thanks. 4/10

Wins: 5-4
Points: 59-54
