i kinda can't get over how much bon iver is just straight up adult contemporary music

I had read someone recently compare them to Bruce Hornsby. After the first song I thought it was quite a stretch, but the second song really drove that point home.

Also, I feel this would have been a better episode if they weren't just trying to get the host to gyrate in every sketch.

This sort of thing is happening more and more on SNL these days. The worst one was from a couple seasons ago when they just had to let Joseph Gordon Levitt sing and dance in every sketch.

Keenan, Andy Sandburg, Bobby Moynihan, Kristin Wiig, and Bill Hadar are all really really good, in my opinion. The skit with Jason Sedakis at the end was SO bad. They could've fit 3 funny skits instead of that long, bad, 15 minute one.

after the monologue and the first sketch or 2, i was worried they'd find an excuse for dude to be shirtless as often as possible

Yeah, they seem to have gotten kind of lazy in the last few years in a very specific way. I feel like it used to be that when a host came on, they might do one recurring thing, like Walked with the Continental. Now it seems like theyre gonna do as many crowd favorites as possible when a host comes back, or they'll stretch a host's one thing they're known for into the only focus for the night.

ha!  i've never heard that comparison, but it makes sense now that you mention it.  the 2nd song is what really lost me.  the first was OK except for the vocals.

I was wondering when the last time they had a musical guest that I've enjoyed, and realized that the last time was when Foo Fighters were on last April.

that foo fighters performance actually got me to check out their last album.  i usually enjoy the digital short songs more than the musical guests.

This episode was pretty bad. Not as bad as the Charles Barkley episode but almost there.

Pretty awful overall. Did you guys know he was a stripper? It seems like they missed an opportunity for making one joke there.

I was bummed out to find out that Channing Tatum was a dude, especially after that gyrating comment a few posts ago.

I fell asleep halfway through Bobby Moynihan hits on Tom Brady.

I feel like they've always let the host be in as many things as they wanted to be in.
I've been really into getting a pair of boat shoes.

I wonder why Paul Brittain left the show....I was starting to like him, especially when he was that spritely character.
Kjell was a simple old man that could skate 3 miles per hour and poke check you off the puck from 25 feet away with his gobbley arms.

i really enjoyed wiig as lana del rey

She did a good job but the idea was really weak. Pretending that the Lana Del Rey performance was good and calling people out for disliking it was embarassing for them.

It seemed like a kind of situation where her family made a generous donation to the show in the weeks between the backlash and the next live show.

eh, i agreed with it at least a little.  her performance was terrible, but i thought they were pretty on point with the fake name stuff.  and the caliber of some other bands that have played on SNL.  and wiig was doing a good job of making fun of just how stiff she was.

Almost. Including Cher in that list damaged their credibility.
