So, this new Van Halen album...
« on: December 28, 2011, 06:44:15 PM »

"According to the usually reliable VAN HALEN fan site Van Halen News Desk, VAN HALEN will announce the first details of its upcoming tour on January 3, with tickets set to go on sale a week later. The band's much-anticipated new album — which will be the band's first with original singer David Lee Roth in 28 years — will arrive on February 7, with the first single and video set to premiere on January 10."

I've got mixed feelings about this one. I thought the two new songs they did in 1996 were just okay. Not really bad and more listenable than Van Hagar. I'm just not sure how an entire album will play out. Though, I've heard they were piecing some songs together from old Roth-era demos. If they are re-working stuff like this...

VAN HALEN - Put Out The Lights (1976 Demo) Produced by Gene Simmons

...at least the songs will be good. However, I'd probably just prefer to listen to a young Van Halen on the demos.

My highest expectation is that it will be like the new Devo album: Not bad and I don't skip the songs when they come on shuffle, and some actually rock, but I don't actively put the songs on. Worst case scenario... well, it just sucks and sounds like Sammy Hagar should be singing.

Balance was a fuck of an album.  If they would have done a "I can't drive 55" bonus track with Eddie doing hammer-ons over top of every single vocal line in the song, people would still care about Van Halen in 2012.

By people, I mean every single person on planet earth, except for jerks.

By care, I mean Sammy Hagar in a hammock stirring a Margarita with his cock done as a full wrap around sleeve(underground tattoo people lingo for getting a tattoo that encompasses an entire arm).

I was shocked by how kick ass the new DEVO record is. Seriously. I go and actively put it on to listen to! Don't tase me bro!

Is there seriously a line in one of their songs that is "don't tase me bro?"  what the fuck.

i stood in the back of the oakland coliseum for van wolfgang a couple years back. it was fine, i enjoyed it. i don't care this time around about the tour and doubt others will care as much either, but i'm sure the album will sell relatively well. (of course in this day in age, who knows how many units that would be).

I think some of those new songs are among Devo's best and they went over really well live, but there were just too many songs on it. "Cameo" is a pretty crappy song.

*I just looked at the tracklist and apparently I have the deluxe version. No fuckin' wonder. My drummer got his from the fanclub and gave it to me since he had an extra. So, yeah, the 12 track version does look pretty awesome. "What We do" is one of my favorite Devo songs. I'm going to take the extra songs away and put in it order and give it some more spins.

Anyway, I have Zero (the Gene Simmons demos) and the 1977 Warner demos from Van Halen and there are some killer unreleased songs. Lots have parts that ended up in other songs, though.

Good thing they changed this one... yikes:

Yes! I am stealing that for Facebook. Diamond Dave has actually been doing martial arts for most of his life.

Anyway, this is supposedly the cover (without the date)...

They had a Billboard in Times Square last night.

............words....escape me........hahahaha  amazing.

i'll probably wind up going to see VH if the tickets aren't too expensive.  they've always been a guilty pleasure of mine, and i've never seen them with DLR, so i think it'd be a fun time.
Like, the male animals should be made to wear skirts and wigs and stuff, and the females should go past a line of builders who make cat-calls at them and whistle loudly in their direction.

Worth every cent to see 'em with DLR. I went the last time they came through and it was awesome. All the hits and Dave is still Dave.

Exactly. Not to take this thread on a tangent, but I have strong feelings about this. The "don't tase me, bro" line is probably the best line on the album, and the most devo. Remember, the name of the band is short for de-evolution, and I think that putting dumb pop culture shit in the tunes is right in line with that they've always done. What makes this line absolutely perfect is that it's a dumb pop culture moment that evolved from a genuine incident that I find pretty scary. Police (and even rent-a-cop security guards) are allowed to use tasers on anyone to keep them under control, and I think they're overused. Case in point, the dumb kid who tried to ask John Kerry a question, what not threatening anyone, and got the shit shocked out of him. Perfect line for Devo. So good.

I think Devo opened with "Don't Shoot" when I saw them. Like I said, the newer stuff went over really well. "Don't tase me bro" works even better in hindsight since people aren't even gonna know what the fuck that means in a couple of years... it will just sound like the usual, awesome Devo quirkiness.

It would behoove you to watch this:
