What app, is it for iPhone?
I used an app called Lose It! It basically helps you keep track of calorie intake and calories burned.

Someone said that everyone knows about eating fewer calories, which is true, but most people have no clue how many calories are in what foods. There are a lot of healthy foods that have tons of calories. This app let's you specifically type in each food (like a granola bar, banana, bowl of cereal, etc.) and saves it, so when you eat it again you just have to pick it from a list which will subtract from your daily allotment based upon your goal weight. You can also add up the calories for, let's say a sandwich, by adding all of the separate items together, then saving it as one item.
I don't use the app anymore, but it gave me an enormous amount of information in terms of calories in each food item, so I have rough idea now. I've been 139 pounds for nearly two years now only wavering by a pound or two. I just counted calories with the app and rode the recumbent bike every other day. Just takes a little discipline.
