Even at two and half hours Girl With the Dragon Tattoo felt rushed. Having read the book and not seen the Swedish version, I was a bit biased but...

I wondered at some of the changes they made to streamline a fairly ponderous cast. The performances were competent but each scene felt rushed and perfunctory, the delivery of lines felt very muddled at times, especially at the beginning. A large portion of the book relies on the building of characters and their relationship with one another.

Most of that was stripped away for the sake of time and it weakened the story's impact emotionally and narratively. It was tight, too tight, with very little left to set a tone, instead relying heavily on the score to set a mood. It was a poor compromise.

Still, if I had never read the book I don't know what my feelings would have been. It was ok, but probably the weakest Fincher movie I've seen personally.
Unfortunately, I'm not interested in having a good time.

1. Insiduous - This was pretty stupid.  I came out of my room to talk to Chadd about how stupid it was.  I was all "Hey, did you see that Insiduous movie?"  And he was all "Yeah, how great was it?"  Needless to say, that conversation didn't really go anywhere.
2. Final Destination 5 - I guess the "twist" towards the end was cute.  I think I've seen all these, but I'm not really sure.  This was passable in the sense that all the rest of them are.
3. Super 8 - This was kinda all over the place.  Mostly, it's just a shame they ruined a cute movie about two kids that like each other by combining it with a boring movie about a boring alien.
4. Moneyball - I really liked this.  It was cheap and calculating, emotionally, but it definitely worked.
5. Don't Be Afraid of the Dark - This was pretty dumb.  I'd never heard of it.  The little girl in it did a good job, and I was kinda entertained, but I don't really get what they were going for here.

FINALLY someone agrees that Insidious wasn't the greatest horror movie of our lifetime.

Is anybody claiming that?

I feel like most of us were just surprised at how good it turned out given the predictability and lameness of similar films with similar premises.
I watch a lot of movies...

I was really, really surprised to find out afterwards that people thought it was really good.

I felt that this film dealt with the premise in a predictable and lame manner, and was only slightly good throughout the first two acts. The acting was terrible, and third act was corny as hell.

I would rather watch Paranormal Activity 3 even.

I thought the introduction of the "wacky" ghost hunters kinda tossed the whole mood out the window.  I mean, I wasn't really enjoying it all that much before that, but I thought that was a really, really bizaare choice.

Attack The Block: Ruled
Wake Wood: Like a cross between The Wicker Man and Pet Semetary. Ruled
The Woman: Super fucked up. Ruled

Its on the list now.  Is it torrentable?

Melancholia was the worst.  I cant believe I watched all of it.  Ugh.

Dream Homes is amazing.  Korean sort of revenge film...revenge on shitty rich people.  Gory and fun.

Columbiana was ridiculous, but good.

Marcia Marcy May Martha or whatever its called was nowhere as good as I hoped.  Meh.  Slow moving and not much happens.  They could have taken the commune further, too.  Oh well.

Rex.

I loved both Inception and Melancholia.  They're two of my favorite movies of the year.  I was SHOCKED by Insidious.  I thought it was the type of horror movie that just doesn't happen in the mainstream anymore.... monsters and demons presented in a non-ironic fashion, scary as fuck, and not super self-aware.  I loved it.

I loved House of the Devil but have read some awful stuff about The Innkeepers. You'd better be right, Eloy, or I'll do absolutely nothing about it.

Oooooh.  The new Ti West movie.  Gotcha.  Im stoked to see it now.  I love the Roost and Hoouse of the Devil and enjoyed Cabin Fever 2 way more than I thought I would.  Legit.

Melancholia was all the worst rich white people doing the worst rich white things and being unimaginable assholes to each other.  I hated all those people.

we watched this and i fell asleep (or i mebbe even went to sleep) like an hour or so into the movie. it just plain sucked ass (and i never bothered to finish it) and yeah, i totally agree with grath here, i tototally don't get what they wanted to achieve with it...

Saw Shame last night. I guess the movie did a good enough job depicting the empty life of a sex addict, in that it made even a threesome look bland.

Seeing a sneak preview of The Devil Inside tonight, I predict it will be terrible.
