it's been long gone. like since larry left. larry is the spirit of that label. larry is doing a record with current rad bands for adeline, and to me that is incredible and CURRENT!!!!

That's really helpful. I've been looking for a comprehensive discography forever. Any idea what some of the other unreleased records were? I wonder if one was supposed to be The Exploding Hearts. They were supposed to record a record for Panic Button right before... you know.

They did have a meeting with 'em when they were in the Bay Area. While I heard it went well, and that they thought all the Lookout folks were real cool, they had been planning on passing on the offer. They had some major label interest, too, and I think they wanted to hold out for something bigger............

RIP Lookout, I guess,  but honestly there's no way this can come as a surprise to anyone.......

Where you put lp does ta\hat mean it was released on vinyl?  I can swear on a bunch of those vinyl was never released?

If I count cd's i've had at least half those release but I want to get everything that was put out on vinyl  Any kind of list for that anywhere?

i spent a few weeks compiling a list, and i'm also on the hunt for one of everything they did. after a few years of halfheartedly searching and ebaying, i'm about halfway there. here's my google spreadsheet, that includes what i think is pretty accurate format and release date info:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?hl=en_US&hl=en_US&key=0Ar4uqyu2es-YdGQzOGNQY0t5Y3piYU5QMm1td19FWUE&single=true&gid=5&output=html

pardon the rainbow abortion, it's color coded according to what i own or still need.

You should do the It's Alive Lookout Records re-issue series! Remastered with bonus tracks and everything. May I also suggest the Wynona Riders stuff, and why not aim real high and do all the MTX stuff.

this!

Many of the Lookout bands that people actually want to hear have already found new labels.  But Adam's suggestion about CBDS is a good one, and I will pass it onto Aaron.

Who will probably reject it on the grounds that nobody cares about CBDS anymore.  Or, conversely, that too many people care.

It might not be 100% accurate, but I tried my best to only put LP if there was indeed a vinyl version.

If you're collecting all of the Lookout releases, you're in for some real doozies from the later years.

Oof, yeah.  Precisely why I'm sticking to the 7"s.

I am actually back in school fulltime as of yesterday, GER!! I will hangout with my awesome family afterwards though, like a jerk.

Thank you, Larry! That would be incredible!

I'd like an CBDS LP.  I used to have some unnamed tracks on an old cassette and liked them, but never ended up getting anything by them.  If IAR put it out, I'd know they'd do a quality and it would be a worthy purchase.

Yeah, I'd also like to say that I'd absolutely buy a CBDS LP.

The more of you that say that you'd buy a CBDS record, the less likely Aaron is to give his blessing to one!

That list is rad! I forgot Spitboy had a record on Lookout. And that MTX's first Lookout release was Making Things With Light.

One of our first CD releases! It was either MTX or Neurosis, "The Word As Law."

Spitboy made their debut on Lookout, and we really wanted to do their LP, too, but it never quite worked out.  Politics, I think, perhaps of the personal variety.

This is sad because it means Scherzo will never see their royalties.

Larry, do you remember which release was your last at Lookout?

It's hard to say, because in the latter days, other people at Lookout were picking bands and putting out records (I know, what a bad idea that turned out to be, but my thinking was that I wanted to give others a chance to shine and not have it be all hierarchical and shit) in addition to me.  So a lot of the records that came out in 1996 and early 1997 (I left at the beginning of April 1997) had little or nothing to do with me.

A couple of the last records I was actively involved in were the Queers' Don't Back Down and the Crimpshrine CD collections.  The latter took up a whole lot of time and energy to work out because the two main band members weren't speaking, so I had to go back and forth between them for the better part of a year.

Don't Back Down and the Crimpshrine collections are pretty good ones to go out on, I'd say.  Thanks!

Joke all you want, but that Scherzo LP was a pretty decent record, and while I'm not sure if it broke even or made a small profit, it definitely didn't fall far short. In those days we could count on selling about 3,000 copies of most full-lengths we put out in the LP/CS/CD format, and that in turn was around the break-even point, after which bands started getting paid.  Some bands, of course, especially if they recorded on the cheap, didn't do full-color covers (that was a big expensive deal back then), etc., could break even on far less than that, maybe even in the 1,500-2,000 range.
