"Hey guys, just wondering if there's any way to get the bonus-y stuff on that extra tape in some other format?  Would love to hear it, but I don't have any tape playing/ripping capabilities.  I mean, I'm sure I'll find some way to get that stuff, but I'd rather send you or the label some $$ instead of just jacking it off the internet at some point.  Already asked the label dude, but he basically laughed at me.  Feel free to do the same.  Thanks!"

He's NOT objecting to the fact that it exists!  It can exist until the end of time without disturbing Grath's equilibrium or mine or probably anyone else's.  What Grath is objecting to, and rightly so, is making music difficult or impossible to hear for anyone who's not dialed into the hipster/p0nx paradigm du jour.  Make cassettes until the cows come home or (more likely) they go out of style, trade them with your friends, hang them on your walls, nobody cares how much you enjoy your cute little cassette tapes. Just stop pretending that they're a practical or plausible means of getting music out to people as opposed to a semiotic signifier of who's in and who's not in your little p0nxer-than-p0nx scene.

What I meant  to say was: because you already emailed the band, I'd be interested to hear what they say about it! But yeah, I really don't have an issue with sharing it with you, especially since it seems it is impending selling out anyways.

This is getting to be like a gay marriage or drug legalization argument.  Nobody is trying to take your tapes away from you.  In ten years' time, I'll have no issue with it when everybody is talking about how awesome it is to buy releases on CD, because man, you just can't top the sound quality on a good old-fashioned compact disc, and you shoulda been there in my day.  The disagreement is not an anti-tape thing.

Thank you!  I understand when folks who don't really read this board get confused and tend to attribute everyone's comments to whoever they're responding to, but you New Hampshires know better!  None of this has ever been an anti tape rant.  It's just about the foolishness of exclusivity, especially in light of the excluded showing interest.

If someone wrote to me and told me they didn't have a computer, cd player or turntable and asked if I could tape a House Boat record for them if they sent me some $$ or a tape and some shipping $$ or something, I'd gladly do it (at least if I could find a way to).  I mean, I'd probably just do it for free cause, you know, I think it's cool when people wanna hear my music.

I also kinda feel like if someone who wasn't-me was making this argument on not-this-board, this whole discussion would have a different flavor.  Imagine some kid from the Phillipines was all "I love Tenement, I wanna hear this, I don't have a tape player!"  I kinda think like 80 people would be jizzing themselves to send that kid a ripped cd or mp3s or something.  I know I'm not the awesomest dude or in the punkest band or on the coolest message board/internet corner, but I really like this band a lot, and music has been boring as shit to me for like 5 straight years.  It would be a bummer if something as stupid and inconsequential as distribution method were to sour me on that.
