Haven't thought about it? Why?

I'm just thinking about my spells and how many Shield spells I should memorize.  We can figure that shit out Wednesday, though!

Cool. I'm just now getting to the meat of the Player's Guide. Kind of dry reading.

Fucking shit. I lost the link to the instructions for doing the character creation that we talked about in chat the other day. What was it called? Buy something?

It looks like this:

9 - 1
10 - 2
11 - 3
12 - 4
13 - 5
14 - 6
15 - 8
16 - 10
17 - 13
18 - 16

The first column is the ability score.  The second column is the cost in points to purchase the ability score.  Every ability score starts at 8, for free.  From there, you have 25 points to spend.

Also, if you're playing a race other than human, your race's ability score increases and decreases aren't added or subtracted until after you spend all of your points.

Hooray!

We're not rolling ability scores?!

this is what happens when you're not part of the group chat, mark waters!  collectively it was decided that a point buy was just logistically easier for everyone.  if you've already rolled your stats, it's cool!  i'm the cool DM!  that's why they call me SweetBox the Cool DM, Esq.

Nah, I barely have any idea what's going on, so I haven't done anything. My email is certaintragedy (at) gmail (dot) com if that will help get me in the loop. In any case, I should be ready (and able) to play by Wednesday night regardless.

We're going to have fun. I'm getting my character together, and I think I have a halfway decent grasp of what I need to know to get started.

 ;D

wonderful!  and, yeah, the internet doesn't say you can't buy your bear armor and i'm inclined to let you protect mr. tumbles.  you might want to read up on it more if you can find any info and see if it's worth it since he might get penalties for wearing certain armor (or any armor at all).

Oh yeah, my character has a decent charisma score, just in case the rest of you want to make charisma your dump stat.

All right, I have joined Google+. Added Amy, Jenny, and Tristain to my D&D circle. I still need to add Chad and Mark. Hopefully I'm doing this right.

Hey dudes, I'm making my character right now. I'm a lawful neutral monk whose order devotes themselves to fighting and drinking -- mostly fighting. But he and his monastic brothers have run up bar tabs all over the world. He lost a game of straws now he's the one who has to adventure to pay off the debts. Since we're level 5, I guess I can reconcile that with the fact that he spends most of the coin he earns on his own bar tabs and other debaucheries -- and also he really enjoys adventuring but takes an aloof position on it most of the time.

Are we using some kind of special online char sheet or something? If not, any recommendations? I don't want to write it down and then scan it and crap!

I was messing with this thing because it's multiple choice, and I'm feeling super overwhelmed. http://dnd3rd.sourceforge.net/

I'm not sure if it's recommend-worthy or anything.

I haven't fleshed out the details of my character at all. I'm still trying to get my head around what I need to put on the sheet and so on. Skimming the book. I figure I'll figure out a background for him once I have a better understanding of the world we're in and stuff.

don't worry about background right now, chris, just make sure you've got a handle on the numbers first then you can flesh out your story since this game is going to go on for a while.  i'm also feeling overwhelmed - there is so much stuff i have to remember and dice that need to be rolled!  you guys don't even want to know how many monsters are in the first battle.

mark - nope, no online character sheet thing.  you might be able to download a fillable pdf though and save a copy.  if you haven't already started writing - totally use that link chris posted, it's insanely comprehensive and you can just shoot me a copy of your saved character.

D: I hate it! It does a lot of the math wrong, and the way monk feats work make it pretty confusing and useless to me. I found a pdf I could fill out that's pretty legit though

Edit: Nevermind, it won't save the information! aaaaah!
