How do you propose they prove he stole it? All they have to go on his motive. I live in a somewhat bad area. The most I can do is take him to court for the remainder of his lease and the previously unpaid rent. Even then, it very well can come down in his favor and I get fuck all.

Are there a bunch of other people in an out of your place all the time? If not, he stole it. If you don't think you can prove it was him even though he's the only one around, then by that logic he can't prove it was you who put all his shit up for free on craigslist.

Don't you think that if tell the police he took your PS3 and they find him with it they could prove it was yours due to your knowlege of your PSN username / password? Even if he's wiped it I imagine they could at least put a little pressure on him to see if he'd admit it.

The rent issue isn't landlord vs tennent either, it's just two guys with a money dispute.
