it is a belt drive. i actually replaced it some years back. but what about the thing where it's only with my 45 rpm records? wouldn't that mean it has to do with the speed at just that setting or something?

Yeah, the 45 setting is too fast, but the motor controls both speeds, so you might need a new motor.

What kind of turntable is it?

It's actually too slow. I have two turntables. My shitty all-in-one is too fast.

It's a Yamaha Auto Return YP-B2

My turntable has four pots inside that control the 45 and 30 rpm speeds. I had to clean them and adjust them with a screwdriver to get my turntable to run at the correct speeds. Mine is a direct drive though, and fairly old. I'm not sure if a belt driven would have the same set-up.

Kind of a tedious thing to do but maybe time how many revolutions per minute a record goes around at both 33 and 45. That way you can at least make sure it's only happening on one speed and not the other. If it's just happening at 45, I don't know, that seems really weird. If it's both (and maybe you're just not noticing it as much at 33?) then it's probably the belt or something related - like the pulleys that the belt goes around need to be cleaned or something.

Or just say fuck it & get a Technics 1200 which was like the best investment of my life!
I define industy as a group of companies in the same general field. Car industry, music industry, race baiting industry, etc.

or find CD's that he also has on vinyl, one for 33 and one for 45. you know how long the song is in itunes/CD player display, then play the record and time it?

Good idea. The second option seems easier.

I really don't want to get a new turntable. I recently bought a new needle and it was somewhere around $100.

I tried to do that to set up a turntable. It almost made me hate Down on the Street by the Stooges.

i've had so many problems with turntables playing too fast.  i just got my first direct drive with a strobe and pitch control.

the one that's too fast, isn't off by much, so it doesn't hinder my listening experience. but, it's my crappy one with built in speakers. the one that's slow is definitely noticeable to everyone and it's attached to my real speakers. luckily, I own mostly 33 rpm records.

i have 2 different belts for 33 and 45 for my landlord's thorens that i use at the crib, its a bitch. never had 45s play too fast, but when it plays 33s too fast it pisses me off but no one else really. it makes the music like half a pitch higher so its only bothersome/noticeable with music i already know well. i bought an automatic turntable with speakers for my dorm for some basehead for like $50, and i cant figure out how to change the belt on that.

When I was a kid I took that Brent's TV 7" to the local record store to have the guy record it to a CD for me. I think they charged like $5. Anyway he recorded it at 33rpm because he thought it sounded too fast and high-pitched.

That's funny.

Kyle was always going on and on about the greatness of his Pro-ject player. I finally got the money for one and it is incredible. Records never sounded so good.

I just found out there's an app on the Android marketplace called: PlatterSpeed
That can help you get perfect rpms.
