I'm amazed he even acknowledges that there should be a safety net, or that government has any responsibility to keep people from slipping through any cracks of any kind. Looks like he's already moving to the left (relatively speaking) for the general election.

""Oh I'm sure there are," he responded. "I'm sure there are places where people fall between the cracks. And finding those places is one of the things that is the responsibility of government.""

This quote will show up on the Daily Show tonight. Crap, I could probably come up with a dozen debates where Mitt said the exact opposite in his run to the far right. Jon Stewart is probably madly masturbating right now in the writer's room!

So, is anybody going to challenge Lushman on this?

Probably not.

I think there are a lot of Republican primary voters that would take stuff like this into account. A lot. What's interesting to me about it is that Romney seems to think it's a forgone conclusion that he'll win the nomination, and he can go ahead and just go into general election mode.

That Mitt said a dozen times during debates that he doesn't believe the government should help people who fall through the cracks. Only Ron Paul would eliminate the welfare state.

Maybe he was talking about the "[it's the responsibility of the government to find them]" part of the comment when contrasted to all of the right-wing smaller government/bootstraps talk.

The Repulican party is doing everything in their party to hand Obama a second term I guess. Why even bother running?
Unfortunately, I'm not interested in having a good time.

Do you watch the Republican debates? They always say that the government should help the poorest. Even Ron Paul goes out of his way all the time to say that he won't kick people who currently rely on government to the curb.

So is now the time for me to challenge you on Ron Paul being the only one who would end the welfare state, which you just contradicted? You are just splitting hairs at this point.

Mitt Romney is the Republican version of John Kerry and this is a repeat of the 2004 election with the parties switched.

Even Ron Paul goes out of his way all the time to say that he won't kick people who currently rely on government to the curb.

No, obviously he didn't say that, because everybody knows he is a heartless Christian conservative who hates poor people and wants to let corporations run the government.  And he's crazy.  So he wouldn't ever say something like that, much less believe it.
