Quote
Ron Paul wants to define life as starting at conception
So? He doesn't favor any federal definition of murder. Any federal declartion that life begins at conception would be purely symbolic under a Paul administration.

Quote
build a fence along the US-Mexico border
Mr. Paul has stated in numerous debates that he is not in favor of a border fence because it would not be effective, would interfere with life on the border, and could eventually be used to keep Americans from leaving, but he would beef up security on the border using the Army.

Quote
prevent the Supreme Court from hearing cases on the Establishment Clause or the right to privacy, permitting the return of sodomy laws and the like (a bill which he has repeatedly re-introduced),
Which state is going to reintroduce sodomy laws let alone actively enforce them?

Quote
pull out of the UN, disband NATO,
Good. NATO serves no purpose other than to provide a cover for neo-colonialism. The UN is a corrupt organization that seeks more and more power.

Quote
end birthright citizenship
Dumb idea.

Quote
deny federal funding to any organisation which "which presents male or female homosexuality as an acceptable alternative life style or which suggest that it can be an acceptable life style"
This was from 1980. If we're going back that far we might want to go back to his 88 Presidential campaign when he favored free immigration.

Quote
the sole vote against divesting US federal government investments in corporations doing business with the genocidal government of the Sudan
He has voted against all foreign sanctions. It's a philosophical position because he believes that innocent people shouldn't be punished for the crimes of others and that sanctions are the wrong way to best effect change in foreign countries.

Wait, so we're supposed to believe that a serious contender for a major party's nomination is regularly meeting with representatives from a small neo-nazi group?

When evaluating B&G's opinion of Ron Paul, bear in mind that both of them would see the Confederacy as their ideal type of government.

Eh. The Confederate Constitution and the US Constitution are almost completely identical.

I would never vote for some asshole who is constant in his political views, as they correspond with his personal philsophy. 'Constant' as in Ron Paul's main selling point being 'I WILL NOT CONFORM FOR ANYONE. FUCK ANYONE WHO ISN'T ME'.

Its your job as Commander in Chief to be pliable and do what's best for the American people, and take everything into consideration, not just your viewpoint. Dude is a stone cold madman and total asshole. Anyone who supports him in the least should fuck off.
Unfortunately, I'm not interested in having a good time.

Ron Paul is a serious contender in the same sense that I'm a serious contender

They're going to nominate someone that can actually draw a centrist vote

Ron Paul is a batshit fucking lunatic, he's not drawing shit besides his core

oh god, another ron paul cult member that thinks anyone that doesn't like him is a brainwashed sheep that just  doesn't understand  how great Ron Paul is.

Nope.  What people say about Paul tends to be wrong and horribly biased, but after I read the newsletter articles four years ago I was done with him forever.

Ron Paul is a batshit fucking lunatic, he's not drawing shit besides his core

Ok, besides being a respected doctor and veteran Congressman, what about Paul makes him a "batshit fucking lunatic"?

What seems amazing to me is that a lot of people who say this with a perfectly straight face don't say the same thing about, for instance, Rick Santorum or Dennis Kucinich.  To iterate my above point, I'm no Paul supporter, but it seems odd to me that people are so rabidly insistent on portraying this right/libertarianish candidate who's signature issue is the role of central banking in the economy, as some sort of drooling crazy-man.

Likely to win and a serious contender are two different things.
But you're not addressing my point. I'm supposed to believe that the dude who was leading the Iowa polls a week before the vote was holding regular conference calls with neo-Nazi groups?
Somebody quote this so Wiggin (that's who this dude is?) can see it.

Because we weren't talking about Kucinich or Santorum.

They're also nuts

Also Mitt and Obama are both shitty, one is just marginally less shitty than the other

The only thing I'll concede to Paul is that he is not pure evil like Gingrich or Romney.  He's only part evil (though more than evil enough, and almost certainly a racist to boot) and part lunatic.

I think Gingrich is more of a complete scumbag than evil. He would do or say anything to get elected and do anything once in power to stay in power. Whether it was for the good of the country wouldn't ever be considered.

More and more though, Romney is the one that scares me. I think he would absolutely convince himself he was doing the right thing with his finger on the button, and press it.
I wouldn't go as far as calling them a "gang" (more like fucking morons), but Juggalos, far and away, are the people who cause the most problems in our library.

right, but that fantasy Commander in Chief doesn't exist. if he did, we'd all be voting for him. unfortunately we have to decide between various levels of shitty alternatives.

the fact that people recognize that we don't have another single candidate who isn't being led around by various interests other than what is best for the American people is why Ron Paul gets support. he has too many crazy ideas but on some issues he is the only sane voice.

The tipping point for me is always the Supreme Court.  If you think that Roberts and Alito are anything other than terrible appointments for the future of the country, then go ahead and vote for a Republican.
I'll admit to using jabs like hippie, bleeding hearts, and social science majors, in my posts.

Do you? Ron Paul is obviously not at all perfect but he's by far the only candidate worth voting for in this election. I'm very liberal, but the national debt is a huge problem and I'd like to not go to war with Iran. I can cope with some vaguely evangelical views and philosophical support of the gold standard, especially when the other candidates have few, if any, redeeming qualities.

i vote, but 100% of the time (except maybe 2008, where i may have been slightly caught up), i am voting against the GOP.

i also disagree pretty strongly with libertarian views re: the role of government when it comes to helping marginalized groups, even if i sometimes agree with their positions on civil liberties and foreign policy.  the fact that some of their views can help sell thoughtful people on some really lame policies is why i consider libertarians more dangerous than mainstream republicans.

I also disagree pretty strongly with a lot of libertarians about the role of government when it comes to helping marginalized groups, even though I consider myself a libertarian.  There is no magic free market that makes economically useless people useful.  I also disagree with most liberals on this issue (solve the problem by treating marginalized people like children) as well as Christianists/conservatives (poor/marginalized people are evil and should be punished for being poor/marginalized; God made them poor/marginalized, etc).

I will also add that I think 99% of all politics, including libertarian politics, is incredibly stupid.  But since politics is ultimately about who has guns and gets to lock people up and take their stuff, the most dangerous place you can go in politics is referring to people who disagree with you politically as "dangerous".
