Going to the Movies Alone. Weird?

Did a semester of summer school in college and used to have about 6 hours between classes (I didn't drive at the time), so I'd walk over to Towson Commons and watch a couple of movies by myself.   Aside from that, I used to drive out to the $2 movie theater and get stoned and go watch shit alone.  I'm pretty great.

I've been going to movies alone a lot lately, I enjoy it.

it's awesome to not have to debate over what to see, when to see it, etc. plus like a lot of folks have said it's usually something you do when it's daytime and most other folks are at work, so you get the matinee price. i saw a bunch of movies alone and for free the summer i was unemployed cuz i had that card with my cable/internet/phone triple play that let you see free movies at certain theaters on tuesdays. once i went back to work though i couldn't take advantage of it cuz everything is always "sold" out on tuesdays anytime from like 4pm on cuz a lot of people have the same card and there's only like 2 theaters within an hour drive of me that honor it.

Though sometimes it is weird, like when you see a movie and the only people there are you 2 couples. Or you and 11 old people.

Those are the best times! I'd hate to see a movie by myself in a packed theater, but then, I rarely see stuff that would be packed with teenagers and other undesirables.

Yeah I hate when other people are there generally, it's just odd when you're the only one there clearly not on a date or something.


If you show up early it's amazingly boring when you're there by yourself, that does still suck.

I go to the movies alone, usually to see a movie that everyone else has already seen so its basically empty.

. . . but if someone else is there, I sit right next to them.

I saw Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind alone with like five other couples in the theater. I feel like I was the only one who truly belonged there.

I hate getting there early, because now even the theater that didn't use to run ads for 20 minutes now runs ads for 20 minutes.

I always go the cinema alone when I work away. The only time it gets really weird is when the credits are rolling and im the only one still there and cleaning staff are looking at me like im weird, but Im just waiting to see if i got a credit

When you stop to notice that at least half or more of the people are there on a date with someone who is ugly, stupid or both, it doesn't seem nearly so bad.  In fact you can look around the room and count your lucky stars!

And if you show up early, that's when you read the news or the PPMB on your phone.  Or look at the couple next to you and think, "I may be at the movies alone, but at least I'm not at the movies with a skank-ass like you!"

I have yet to do this, even though I started this thread months ago.

I kind of want to see American reunion. Unfortunately, this is like the only movie theatre in the entire county and next to a giant college, therefore it's smarter to go on the weekdays.
