Scooters?Vespa type stuff, who has one?
« on: February 01, 2012, 07:05:14 PM »
I'm thinking about getting one this spring to commute to my ironic job.  Any recommendations?  I don't want to spend more than like $2500.  Help the old man, thank you.

I've got a 1964 Vespa GS160. Spent about 2 years and more money than I care to think about restoring it from scrap. I'd advise against getting something this old unless you enjoy putting your life in danger every time your ride it and spending a lot of time at the side of the road broken down.

I've got a 2007 Vespa 250GTV, bought it new in 2009 for a massive discount, financed it and pay $150/month. (Total price $5000) I take it to the Vespa shop, they do regular maintenance, and when I got side-swiped they fixed it up real pretty & the other guy's insurance paid for it all.

I wanted the exact opposite experience of Ed's. I can change the oil in a car and that's about it. I want an inexpensive, quick, fuel-efficient way to get around, and I have a wife with great credit, and that's all she wrote!

They have pretty sweet 300s now, but both the 300 and the 250 are fine on the freeway.

I was after the same experience, ease and  convenience. Then I saw this scrap GS and couldn't resist. They are undeniably beautiful (I'd put up pictures if I could figure out how) but unfortunately they stereotype the Italian reputation for extreme unreliability.

No wind screen.  At least fifteen mirrors, though.

Seriously, no wind screen.  If it's too short, the wind will bounce your head around.  And it can't be too tall, because you don't want to have to look through it instead of over it (no windshield wipers if you get caught out).
I'll admit to using jabs like hippie, bleeding hearts, and social science majors, in my posts.

Just get a nice Cafe Racer instead of a Vespa, you knob. Vespas = nerdy. Cafe Racers = cool as shit.
