Yeah having something comfortable and reliable is overrated.

Dude, you were just schooled by repoman, who has a sticked thread in his honor at Weasel Acres for being the most colossal dunce we've ever had sully our doorstep.

Lots of scooters around town here. Brands I've never even heard of before.
I'm sure 99% of you could pass for NASCAR fans just by swapping out that Ergs! t-shirt for a Dale Earndhardt Jr T-shirt.

I didn't know it was a scooter.  Also vespas have been around forever ... Sorry you're intimidated by them.

how do these things do on hills?

They do great, even with 2 people on it. If you have a 150, I think you'll probably have problems with hills. My 250 is fine, I speed around like the guy from the Jerky Boys all the time.

Jerky Boys - Punitive Damages

If Rally gets the 300 he won't have any problem. You should get freeway legal just for the added power for hills & stuff. Plus, that way no one will mistake it for an Asian co-ed's scooter.

it seems pretty stupid to spend five grand on a scooter when you could just get a motorcycle.

Dude, it wasn't $5,000, it's $150/month! Ha ha ha...

But I wanted a scooter (I checked out a bunch of them, including a few electric bikes) because I'm trying to be good to my back, and being hunched over on a cafe racer or rice burner would do me no favors. And no, I'm not gonna spend a zillion dollars on some cheesy Goldwing crap when I can have a lot more fun on a scooter.

A 300 seems like over kill. I've shrunk considerably Jesse.

It's mostly for engine power. I take mine on the freeway to save some time but otherwise I'm mostly on the streets.

I think the GTV has the light on the fender and the GTS has the light on the handlebars.

I'll admit to using jabs like hippie, bleeding hearts, and social science majors, in my posts.

I'm a fan of anything two wheeled, I own 2 motorcycles but have always dug scooters as well. I would say that Jesse is right, always go for more power then you think will be necessary, it may seem like overkill but not only will it be good for any type of incline but you also never want to be maxing out your engine just to keep with the speed of traffic. If it's pushing your motor to the limit to cruise at 45mph (which it will for anything 150cc or smaller) it's going to put a lot of wear and tear and unnecessary strain on the engine causing mechanical problems and shortening it's lifespan. Another thing to consider is stability, as a general rule the larger the wheel the more stable the ride (less vibration and wobble). This isn't a huge concern at 25-35mph but makes a big difference at any higher speed or on less even/smooth roads.

yeah, my main travel road is like 40 or 45 mph  so maybe the 150 would be working at the high end.

I've had my heart set on something like this for a few months...

http://houston.craigslist.org/mcy/2828984049.html

Inexpensive, aesthetically pleasing, and no need for a Motorcycle license.  For use in a 5 mile radius.

Yeah, I was thinking moped before I got the scooter, but most of them are fixer-uppers and that's not gonna cut it. Still, I remember growing up thinking a moped was the coolest thing ever. (Obviously this was before I saw the Mods & the Rockers in Quadrophenia- both were totally cool)

Yeah in Jr high my pal ha a moped and his house was on te corner of about 3 blocks of a blocked off abandon street. We rode the crap out of that thing on the street, then eventually everywhere. Then a few years later I " borrowed" on from this barn/ garage to go see my GF in the next town over. Hubba Hubba!
