I used the DC comics new 52 gimmick to start reading comics again. And I've been enjoying.

the 52 thing is a cool idea but it totally traverses into gimmick territory, where you have to buy a wonder woman here, and a blue beetle there to keep up with the story line.  upselling is lame, and why do i wanna buy a wonder woman?  gimme a break.

i actually stopped buying comics when they went up by a dollar a while back, (year or 2 ago?)  now i just follow the few i like via the trade paperbacks.

Most of the New 52  books are pretty standalone.
Unfortunately, I'm not interested in having a good time.

I haven't read it. I haven't really read any of the Dreamwave or IDW books, however I am starting to now. I'm catching up on the last ongoing, and holy shit, the Death of Optimus Prime one shot, and susequent two new #1 issues were fantastic.

You're too young for G1, but if you are a fan, definitely pick them up. Infestation 2 #1 came out this week too, and it revisits the Hearts of Steel stuff, is written by Chuck Dixon, and has Loveraftian monsters.

And yes, like Jenny said, I am obsessed with Transformers.

If you're into superheroes, man there's so much exciting stuff still on the ground floor right now!  For starters, go check out Batman and Daredevil.

Seriously the new Batman is the best thing Ive read in ages, definitely a great place to start.

Id been plowing through the first 30 or so issues of it recently, and I rather enjoyed it. Obviously I liked it as a kid, but I think it holds up as an example of that era fairly well. I'm a fan.

I haven't owned a comic since the early 90's and just bought a couple volumes of Savage Sword of Conan to try and see if I still like comics

the world is an asshole and you're the shit
