i have a question and i'd prefer you to answer in essay format.
why do you really want to be moderator?
Why I Really Want to be Moderatorby Another Adam
It's hard for me to make the statement "I really want to be a moderator." My decision to seek moderator abilities has little to do with my personal desires and much to do with my feeling of personal responsibility. This bored has been good to me, and I feel I possess unique qualifications that, coupled with moderator abilities, would allow me to make the bored a better place for our entire "family."
My posting record is quite clear: I spend a lot of time on the bored. I know the bored inside and out, both its geography and its inhabitants. I've had the pleasure to get to meet many of you in person and still more of you through conversations on AIM and through personal messages. Regardless of race, gender, or ideology, I've been able to find common ground and form unique bonds with a great many people. I understand the importance of unity, despite the surface differences folks on the bored can bring to the table. In short, I am a uniter of people. I believe this skill is critical for the bored, as individuals can be divided on any old corner of the Internet-- or off the Internet entirely-- but this bored is a place where people want to come together to share their individual experiences while becoming part of a greater whole.
Some might say, "Another Adam, you've already
done so much of that without having moderator abilities." To that, I'd first say, "thank you." I'd then add, "but, with moderator abilities I could do
so much more." For example: At times, items are placed in the Random Discussion section of the bored that would be much more suitable for the "Bands," "Shows," "Releases," or, believe it or not, "Wanted" sections. These misplaced threads can make it difficult for people to navigate the bored efficiently. They can lead to important information being overlooked by the exact people who would derive the most pleasure or benefit from them. As moderator, I would be able to move these threads to their appropriate homes. Mark, his lovely wife, and Jenna are certainly able to do this work. But the truth is this: These people are not always here at the time this work needs to be done. In addition, I don't feel comfortable expecting them to do all the heavy lifting around here. I have a strong back, metaphorically speaking, and I'd like to give a little something back to this place.
Being a moderator is about more than moving topics around. There is also the matter of pinning (or "sticky-ing") and unpinning (unsticky-ing) threads. Often times, the appropriateness of pinning isn't as clear as knowing where on the bored a particular thread belongs. I've paid a lot of attention to the work our current moderators have done in this regard, and I've learned a lot of lessons that would help me to make the correct decisions regarding the pinning of threads. I've been around enough years to know about the seasonal events that occur on the bored. Softball, camping, and the Fest come to mind. I have a very good sense of when it is time to pin a thread related to one of these events and when it is time for these threads to become unpinned. At times, there can be a lot of pressure within a thread to either pin or unpin a particular thread. The individual making these sorts of decisions needs to have a cool and impartial head, and I believe my head is as cool and impartial as they come.
In summation, this bored is very important to me, and I want to do whatever I am able to make it just as special to all the other members of the bored. I have a strong record of working hard for the bored content-wise, and I think that now is an appropriate time for me to take my work to the next level and become a moderator.
