"The Queers are still together?!"

I took my amp to this dude to get it fixed today. We were outside of his work shed talking and he noticed my "Bubblegum Dreams" pin and said, "You like The Queers?!" very excitedly. I said I did and mentioned that they would be playing the next Insubordination Fest. He then said, "The Queers are still together?!"

As the conversation went on I informed him about all the bands that pulled their shit from Lookout Records, how Ben Weasel is still making music and put out his own record a while ago, as well as other pop-punk related issues.

It's weird when things like this happens, because it reminds you about how little the general indie music fan actually gives a shit about pop punk. Even when they were really into this stuff during Lookout's hey-day, which this guy was.

Anyway, when I pick up my amp in a few days I'm taking him a mix-CD of some newer pop-punk bands that I think he may enjoy.

The guy/friend who got me super into "underground" pop-punk back in like '97ish, is so not into this stuff now, and hasn't been for years.  He gave me a mixtape that had the following bands (and then some) on it:  Moral Crux, Sicko, Boris The Sprinkler, After School Special, Zoinks!, Chixdiggit, Beatnik Termites, and all kinds of other stuff I'm forgetting now. 

I tried to make him a mix a few years ago with newer bands, but I doubt he even bothered listening to it.  Kind of depressing.

I won't go quite that far, but I do find it depressing when people can't "move on" musically without abandoning what they once loved.

Shit, pop-punk probably makes up about 15% of my musical interests these days, but I still fucking love it...when well done.

Yeah, it wasn't super uncommon when I was working in the bike shop by myself and listening to music, to have people come in and be like "oh shit, is this Screeching Weasel? I used to love this band. I haven't listened to them in like 10 years! Which album is this again??"

i suppose i would ask for your definition of shitloads.  i like pop punk and the board bands but i wouldn't say i listen to shitloads of it.  i give a fair amount of love to all the genres of music i'm into.

To listen to "our" kind of punk rock, you really have to dig deep and find it.  I envy most of the people who post on here, because it's sounds like they got at least some kind of scene going on in their area.  There ain't shit around here.

I got out of listening to this music a couple of years ago.  I sold all my CDs away thinking I had no use for this music any more.  But just recently I found a renewed interest and am now buying up all my old CDs again.  Good thing Asian Man re-issued all the Queers CDs.  So basically I'm playing catch with all the new bands in the last two years.

 I was the same way when i found the bored.. i hadn't been listening to all my old favorites like boris and parasites, weasel, mtx, and ect.. for years and wonderred where the skullduggerylable i used to get all these great teengenerate records from ended up and wodnerd what boris was doing nowadays which was back in O4 and by searching found the bored and never looked back.. it is great to pull out all those old cd's and listen to them again somewhat fresh for the first time in a long while; and it is through the bored that i have found out about some of my favorite bands right now such as the apers, zatopeks ect..
