I think there's a pre-existing thread for this sort of thing but Search is down so fuck it. I got this from Matt Decker over at Premium out here in Oakland and he gave me the first non-BS tattoo care tip I've ever heard. An hour or so after getting the work done you put a hot compress (washcloth that you ran under really hot water) on it until it gets cold and repeat that about 6 times. For a couple days put some A&D on it and then a non-perfumed lotion after that. I got this on Tuesday and it's pretty much healed and stopped hurting pretty much 24 hours later. No scabbing, no drop outs, maybe a little itchy today but over all this thing is healing like a dream. Anyway. What did you get recently?

Not healed completely and photo is sub standard. Dane at True Love Tattoo in London, Ontario. I got it to celebrate my 8th wedding anniversary. As far as care goes. I don't touch it until the next morning, I take off the wrap or bandage and clean off plasma, vaseline, dried blood and excess ink with a no-perfume very mild soap and my hand only(normally a hypoallergenic baby soap). I moisturize quite a bit after that 4-8 times a day (perfume-free Lubriderm). My tattoos always lightly flake after about 4 or 5 days and are healed completely around day 10.

I got tattoo'd on Tuesday. This is the first sitting of color, the third total. First sitting was outline only and took 2.5 hours, shading was second sitting and was around 2 hours, and this third sitting was about half of the color and took about 2.5 hours. The piece is by Mikey Wheeler (of Bald Eagle) at Hollywood Rebels.

I very much recommend Mike V at Tigerlily out on Sandy. He's a very, very good technical tattoo artist and one of my best friends.

I got this dude a couple of weeks ago..

I usually just do the ointment thing for two days and then lotion. I'll have to try that hot compress thing.

That's pretty cool. I can think of an even cooler place to put a tattoo of a small gnome with a lamp though.

The method I was told to use for 2 out of my 3 tattoos was to keep it wrapped with Saran Wrap for 3 days. Change the wrapping every 3 hours (wipe it down with water and pat dry before you put on a new wrapping). After the 3 days just apply non-scented lotion to it every 3-4 hours or when it starts feeling dry. This method is a bit annoying if your tat is in a hard to reach spot but this way they don't scab, don't itch and heal really fast.

Just finished up my my new back piece. I think it turned out pretty good.
