JESS ELEC RADIO!!

1. Screeching Weasel - My Brain Hurts.  whoa!  i've never seen this song come up on last.fm before.  i wonder if Ben being involved in baseball now made him upload more songs.  when my friends and i did a SW cover band for a party, we ended with this.  we never practiced, just assumed we all knew how to play the songs.  when we hit the part with the drum fills at the end, the kid playing drums nailed them perfectly.  it was awesome.  10/10

2. Weston - Superbus 23.  probably the best song about wanting to commit statutory rape in the pop-punk genre.  8/10

3. The Steinways - (Holy Shit)... oh hey, a studio Steinways song.  last.fm says this is from a Cheapskate Records comp.  weird.  still one of my favorites from their first record.  i love the "never mind that..." bit, and the feeling all emo part.  several thumbs up.  9/10

4. Thicke - Brand New Jones.  well this is a change of pace.  this is so far from what i usually listen to.  i dont know how to judge it.  i'm going with the easy out.  5/10

5. The Stooges - Gimme Danger.  YEP.  10/10

jess elec's station is a monster

thanks joe!  i started yours, but act one of my show got in the way.  i'll finish during intermission.  you might want to try listening to "brand new jones" a few times.  it's just a brilliant, goofy song about masturbation.

radi-joe-joe-joe

modest mouse - night on the sun
i've never actually heard these guys.  will this be a good song to sell me on them?  let's find out!  by the time the vocals start, i already feel like there have been three different styles, but they all mesh really well.  i'm almost really into this.  it's 3 min in & there is still 4:30 to go!!  does it start rocking out soon?  huh, no.  no it doesn't.  could have been a 6, but it's 7 MINUTES LONG!!!  5/10

bob dylan - peggy day
i'm gonna take a LOT of shit for this, but i just don't like bob dylan (when he's singing that is.  i can't deny he wrote some great stuff)  i might need a BDTS.  i'm trying though, really i am.  this was gonna be a 3/10, but the ending makes me happy.  4.5/10

the germs - manimal
i don't know the germs as well as i should.  this is rockin!  i'm pretty sure it's a live track, because the vocals are cutting in & out.  yeah, that's annoying.  the music is awesome though.  yeah, it's live, darby & the audience are yelling at each other at the end of the song.  7/10 despite the live suckiness

bob dylan - tell me that it isn't true

did you not hear me the first time?  i don't like dylan!  why are you subjecting me to this last-fm?!?!?  blah.  4/10

the hold steady - lord, i'm discouraged
the title makes me sad already.  the piano is beautiful and i love his voice.  mmmm, and the harmonies are sweet too.  aside from lifter puller, what else has the singer done?  or who is it that he sounds like?  i can't quite place it.  7/10

thanks jess!
night on the sun is awesome, but probably a terrible introduction to modest mouse.  you might want to check out their record The Moon and Antarctica.  its the same sort of style as that song, but most of the songs are shorter.  and some get loud.

i'm pretty surprised that my station pulled 2 songs from the same Dylan record in one 5-song block.  weird!
the only other thing i know Craig Finn has done besides LP and THS is his electronic project called the Brokerdealer

Cake's Sexy Ass Radio

Parasites - Hang Up -- These guys played the fest right?  Actually, I think it was more like the one guy with the Ergs! playing everything else.  This is really cool, I'm enjoying the crap.  I like the harmonies.  I wish that chorus was a little more explosive, but I like this a bunch.  7/10

Groovie Ghoulies - (She's My) Vampire Girl -- Man cakes, you really love pop punk.  I should listen to your station when I'm bored, whenever I review it I get tons of shit I like.  This is pretty good, but I kind of wish there was a little more to it.  If it existed I'd go 6.5, but instead I'll go 6/10

The Queers - Janelle, Janelle -- It's the real Queers!  I don't listen to the Queers, I feel like I'm doing something wrong when I say that aloud.  I like this a lot.  That "1, 2, 3, go!" didn't sound terribly enthusiastic, but I'm totally diggin this.  7/10

The Marked Men - Sadist -- I think this is the 2nd Marked Men song I've ever heard, both of them on last.fm.  I'm not crazy about the vocals, and the song is kind of boring me but at the same time I like it.  I like this part where he's kind of yelling over the "whoa-oh-oh"s are the end.  6/10

Chinese Telephones - Tell Me Tell Me -- This song fucking rules.  I love this whole album, this song is probably in my 5 favorite tracks off of it.  It's one of the few that I feel like I know a good portion of the lyrics to.  9/10

Horo's radio!

represented as non-alcoholic beverages, on account of I'm under-age!

Common - You, Black Maybe - First off this guy needs to learn some grammar. This isn't very interesting. It's sorta generic sounding to me. I need to listen to a lotta rap songs multiple times to get into. This tastes like a shitty Snoop Dogg energy drink. 4/10

The Methadones - Already Gone - I havn't actually listened to this band that much. Everyone seems love them, though. His voice reminds me of the guy from AAR at times, this is a bad thing. This tastes like water, very bland but you've gotta consume it sometimes anyways. 5/10

The Temptations - Too Proud to Beg - This is obviously pretty sweet. One tight jam. Tastes like coke, it's a classic, and always delicious. 7/10

The Unlovables - Doot Da Doot - This album isn't as good as the newer one, but it has a few jams, such as this song. Get's pretty epic at the end. It's a strawberry milkshake, sometimes a little overly sweet but still yummy. 7/10

Motion City Soundtrack - Capital H - This sounds pretty bad from the beginning. Oh, his vocals just came in and it got even worse. He sounds kinda like a mix between Jack Black and Eddie Vedder, now that is fucked up. I just drank vomit. 1/10

Trevvie Radio!

1. Lawrence Arms -- Lose Your Illusion 1.  Right off the bat, I'll admit I am an idiot for not owning Oh Calcutta.  It's pretty rare that I don't enjoy the hell out of the Larry Arms, and this song will not buck that trend.  If I had to give one little criticism of the band, it's that both singers have sort of a stock melody they go back to on lots of their songs, and this one's got the stock Chris melody in it, but whatever.  This is a good song.  7/10

2. Kind of Like Spitting -- B-side Poetry.  This is a little ditty that sort of sounds like it was recorded over a phone.  It's a capella.  Pretty bad.  I have to assume this is not representative of the band. Mildly annoying. 4/10

3. Zatopeks -- Turkish Bread Chronicle.  All right.  I have to go on record now as officially not getting the Zatopeks.  Competent pop-punk that's sort of a throwback to the 90s.  I really want to enjoy them... 5/10

4. Saves the Day -- You Vandal.  I like that the album this song is from is called Through Being Cool.  Superfast emo/pop/punk that smacks a little too much of mallrock for my liking.  It's well-done, I guess, but the style is just a turn-off for me. 5/10

5. Toys That Kill -- Widows on Welfare.  Man, I really, really love Toys That Kill.  This song is just so fucking badass.  They kill cause they get so hi-igh!!!!!!!!! 8/10

Solid radio as usual, Trevvie!

Matt Dorsey Radio!!!!

Musical compatibility:  HIGH

1) Scared of Chaka - My Friends Are All Ghosts -- This is one of my favorite songs, ever.  It's sort of weird that this song popped up, because I've been listening to this album a lot lately.   10/10

2) Screeching Weasel - I'm Gonna Strangle You -- A classic song from a classic pop-punk album (quite possibly a top 3 contender for a "most classic pop-punk albums ever" list).  I use to love this song, and I definitely still enjoy it, but it doesn't hold my fancy like it use to.  Still, a very solid...   7/10

3) The Modern Lovers - Roadrunner -- This is live, and it sounds fairly awful.  I really enjoy this song, but not this version.  4/10

4) Dead Mechanical - New Alchemy -- Oh Matthew...this was my number one album from whichever year it came out (2007?).  And everyone knows I begged, brown nosed, and bribed my way on to their week long tour with AV Club as the roadie.  My point is that I'm quite biased.  Great band, great guys, great song, great album.  9/10

5) Sugar - Gee Angel -- I listen to this album less than any other Sugar album.  I should remedy that, because this song is great.  This is pretty standard Sugar: fuzzy, and poppy.  In other words it's great.  I'm one of the few board members who prefers Sugar over Husker Du, and I'm OK with that.  8/10

As always, Matt, great station.

Thanks, Trevvie!

It's interesting that someone who prefers Sugar to Husker Du doesn't consider Gee Angel one of the best Sugar songs.  Maybe that is a Sugar song that tends to be preferred more by Husker Du fans?

Thanks for the review, Matt!

I really enjoy the Zatopeks, but it's not something I put on very often.  Although, I think Turkish Bread Chronicles is probably a solid 8/10 in my book.  That Saves The Day song is awesome (which is odd, because I generally hate the "mall punk" sound), and would probably get a 7/10 from me.  That said, I'm not shocked by the score you gave it, and if anything I'm pleasantly surprised it got the score it did.

Like I said, I'm pretty much completely unfamiliar with File Under Easy Listening.  I own it, but I think I've only listened to it like one or two times.  It's definitely a great song.
