oh man, I heard in this one you could actually visit the Happy Room Academy's corporate office!  I owe them several punches in the face, so I'm psyched!

i think i might have to check this out now. Wii games have been a safe bet... i generally actually get my money’s worth, whereas PS3 games collect dust after a couple plays

I can almost guarantee that you'll get addicted.  You'll probably feel ashamed and disgusted about yourself because of it, but you'll like this game.

I was browsing the forums on Game FAQS and there was a thread titled "Does anyone over thirty play Animal Crossing?" and it had like 200 replies. I thought it was gonna be a thread of people calling the older people losers, but it was a thread of old people trading Wii codes. Now, once I hit 40, I'll re-evaluate my Animal Crossing habits.

if you dont have the microphone can you still hear other people who do have it talk? I'll probably pick this game up for my daughter since she still plays the gamecube animal crossing on the wii. She took over my town but wont weed. i think she cut down my golden money tree for some reason. it was funny because i cared for a moment and then realized i was never going to play the game again.
she also wants a DS with the new pokemon rangers shadows-something game where you circle pokemons or something.

You can transfer your DS character over to the Wii version, too. It retains the look and some of the catalog.

I got a free bunny balloon when I visited the town. And bought a tuxedo at the ritzy place. You can go to the barber and get a makeover so it looks like your Mii.
I have spent the last two evenings drinking beer while my fancy little dude fishes and pays off his house and gets it remodeled.

Also if it hasn't been mentioned, if you don't have Wii Speak you can still bring up a keyboard screen and type out messages for your dude to say.

My favorite part of this game still might be giving my fellow townspeople new catchphrases. I suppose I'm why you have to install that parental control pack before you play.

Does anyone think they're going to use Wii Speak?

Has anyone purchased it?

Do you have to walk up to the TV (or wherever you have the microphone thingie) in order to speak?

Like I said before, it might not even be worth it, since you aren't going to be able to sell it if you don't like/need it.

I don't think so, any more than you'd have to walk up to the tv to make the sensor know where your Wiimote is. Voice conferencing mics are decent enough to work for rooms of people now.

I have no idea how well this thing works.

So there is a parental control pack that will make it kid friendly? can you turn off the ability to hear other people talking? does the control pack censor what people are typing? My daughter is 6 but very good at reading and i dont want her exposed to "online video game language" (which is likely the lowest form of language outside of sports talk radio)

I joined the happy room academy at the corporate office.  if you make your room awesome enough, they will put it on display.

as far as i can tell, there aren't many changes to the game as far as your main town goes (although i've never really played older versions, adam has).  the new stuff is going to the city.  there are a few stores, a theater, and some secret store that i haven't been to yet but you have to find a member from your town and get an invite (which i got).  the major perk is being able to add friends and go and visit their towns, catch their fish and take their fruits to plant new trees in your town.  people can also ome visit your town.  the town stores are the same: old man nook's store and the place where you can buy/make/sell clothes.

the wiispeak part is apparently a mic that goes on your tv with the remote sensor.  it captures the conversations of the entire room.  i didn't get this, i don't want to hear other people blab while i fish!

yes, but as long as you're adding friends that you know, it shouldn't be a problem.  nobody can come into your town unless you add them to your friends.

probably groping her and shoving her back and forth, maybe a little more roughhousing like hair pulling and a stomach punch, that's how i imagine an assault on a woman

there are other people in the city talking but they are just other characters from the game, not users.  and the city is disappointingly small, but i'm sure as the game goes on new things happen.  you can buy a fancy couch for 120,000 bells!!!

You can probably turn off the ability to hear other people talking. I didn't go into the control options. The keyboard thing I think censors the same way the DS wouldn't let you give dudes catchphrases that were full of foul language.

and some secret store that i haven't been to yet but you have to find a member from your town and get an invite (which i got).

It's Redd, from the previous games. They moved him from your town to a warehouse in the big city.

I learned how to be sad at the theater, or something like that.

I say go for it... the dude who started this thread doesn't seem to be around. It can be a request/trade thread, too, as opposed to talking about the game and Wii Speak and stuff.

Technically, yes, but I don't know if the guy who started the thread is going to wanna put everyone's info in the first post. Either way is fine with me.
