It would be awesome if there was one big Preacher book.  I like the fancy shit.

Also, is there anyone else out there that can't stand the idea of reading comics online?  I like to physically molest my literature.

Hmm not one big one, I thought it was going to be, but there are going to be a couple of hardcovers coming out.
Todd, this is A-plus quality signature material here.  Just saying.
hahaha wow . tood, 12/10.

Green Lantern
Green Lantern Corps
The Stand
Kick-Ass
Tales of the TMNT

I don't read comics anymore but was curious what you guys thought of Matt Fraction's work with Marvel.  He's been on the Best Show a few times so it planted a seed that I should check some of it out but comics aren't in my budget right now.

Hi Frank.

Fraction is my current favorite comic book writer.  I haven't read all of his Marvel stuff yet, but I love Casanova and Iron Fist and The Order and Punisher War Journal.  I'm betting his other stuff is good as well.  He has yet to disappoint me.

I haven't read comics regularly in a while, but a friend of mine got me Volume 1 of Y: The Last Man. Is that series still going? I should get more of those trades...

Also, has anyone read Jeff Smith's (Bone) new book, RASL?

Yeah, I was the dork that only read small press black and white comics (Tick, OddJob, Sock Monkey, etc.)

Y The Last Man recently finished up (recently meaning in the last six months to a year).  I just finished the last trade the other night.  Easily the most satisfying/amazing comic run I've read since...either Preacher or Sandman.

Ive been reading RASL but I can't really say if its good or not cause theirs only 3 issues out and it seems he writes a new one when ever he feels like it.

Robbie, there's a TMNT comic out now that's worth reading?  Grath's sudden dive into complete insanity is really giving me the urge to go along with him.

This series really is beyond awesome. I jumped on because of Lost and it was a great decision.

Meanwhile, lately I've been reading:
Green Lantern/ GL Corps
Jonah Hex
Captain Britain and MI13
Fables
Scalped
Captain America
Iron Man/ Uncanny X-Men (Fraction)

I think I've read the first six Fables trades, and I love it!  I actually got into it years ago, but recently sold my copies of the first three trade paperbacks.  A decision I greatly regret, but I was poor at the time, and in serious need of the cash.  I will probably repurchase those, and the rest of the series.  It's soooo amazing.  Such a fun comic series.  I read Fraction's Punisher War Journal run, and just couldn't get that into it.  I apparently need to check out some more of his stuff, though.

I'm currently getting caught up on DMZ by Brian Wood.  It's, quite frankly, amazing, and I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone and everyone.

I fell out of comics a few years ago, and I'm starting to get back into them slowly but surely.  It's hard, though, because I'm so behind, and am not familiar with a lot of the new and/or upcoming writers.  Also, a lot of the books and stories I was following are sooooo far along that it's quite intimidating.

Get the two Casanova Trades from Fraction, it's his best work. He's kind of refreshingly different from a lot of comic book writers in that he embraces some of the more fun aspects of the form, but I think he's definitely a required taste.

Preacher is too vast for one hardcover, but they are starting to put out regular sized HCs for it starting with this month's Previews (your comic shop order catalogue). I got the second Walking Dead Omnibus although I didn't remember ordering it. My shop was just like,"Here you go!," and I was all,"Err..."

A trick to remember about the comic industry is, don't buy something unless it's in the format you absolutely want it in. Because much like DVDs they are constantly upgrading formats and shit.

The first part of that Gaiman Batman was great, can't wait to read part two.
Unfortunately, I'm not interested in having a good time.

Unless Fraction is actually his last name, I kind of hate him already. I have the Iron Fist Omnibus on order though, because I'm curious. And like to waste money.

I will have to rivisit Y because people praise it so much. I still have the first couple issues which were totally boring and didn't hook me at all.

Yeah. This place is actually really good Eric. I also like the comic store that is now in the Rotunda. Can you believe it? My dream of having a comic store like three blocks from house finally came true!
Adam, do you ever go to Atomic Books in Baltimore? It seems like they have a good selection.
Y The Last Man recently finished up (recently meaning in the last six months to a year).
Y ended last summer. I'm not very open-minded when it comes to...anything, actually, but this is easily best comic series of the past 5 - 10 years.

Has anyone read that Jack Kirby rip-off comic, Godland? The first 4 or 5 issues were good, but I have a feeling that it quickly took a nosedive into turdsville. Can anyone confirm this?

They've only released the first of the two issues yet, but the first one was pretty good I thought. I'm definitely hoping the conclusion will tie it together well.

I also owned the first four trades but never read them and just gave them to poster Jenni for free.

Brian K. Vaugn is aweome though. Ex Machina was great when I read it, as was Runaways. I am curious about DMZ but all the Brian Wood stuff I've read has been a total letdown and waste of time. But that was just some 'punk' miniseries and DEMO which was unbelievably shitty.

I do! I live about five blocks from Atomic. Great store. I bought some Buffy comics there a few weeks ago.

I want to check out this Godland thing; you've piqued my interest.

If anyone has any suggestions for mini or independent books that are good please let me know. I've never been in the loop as far as that is concerned.

Janelle I feel dumb for not realizing you had a strip in I Saw You... before buying it. I like Julia Wertz.

Oh and I just remembered I have the first Y hardcover coming to me whenever it ships! Kind of excited now.

Grath these are the books I read right now:

X-Factor
Hulk (which is kind of terrible but fun)
Captain Britain and MI13 (great book, surprisingly)

Action
Superman
Supergirl

I've really been enjoying the Superman books lately! The whole New Krypton storyline is pretty fresh, plus I LOVE James Robinson, plus Mon-El has taken over for Supes.

Also! For you Fables fans I was reading some old Justice League collections from the 80's and he was a penciller on one issue. Kind of cool.

Yeah. From what I understand that's how BONE was as well. I didn't follow it for a long while, so I was psyched when that One Volume Edition came out. Even more psyched when Borders had it for like $20 or some nonsense.

Hey Grath...I literally just started reading comics again after a few years layoff. I'd highly suggest the New Avenger and Dark Avengers titles. They just started this new story arc with issue 50 (51 just came out last week) so its a good time to jump on. I think Dark Avengers are up to issue 3. You don't need to get every dark reign tie in. This books make sense on their own, and is where all the important stuff is happening.

Oh yeah, I've been keeping up with that one too. I like it, but yeah, it comes out whenever it feels like it, so to speak.

Chad, that Tales of the TMNT is pretty good and is basically each done with each issue by different artists/writers (for the most part its a rotating cast of Mirage writers/artists) and each issue is a standalone story, with back story type things and past events, ect. Its pretty good. The TMNT volume 4 series is good but is strickly mailorder-only now directly thru Mirage and they havent put out a new issue in months.

I recommend Green Lantern to anyone with good sense...I've been following it religiously since the Sinestro Corps War. And Kick-Ass is great, too...Soon to be a "kick ass" motion picture...

Yeah it is only two issues.

I liked the newest TMNT series a lot, and kind of refuse to pick up the Tales books because I'm stubborn and mad that it ended.

Kick-Ass just looked like more typical Mark Millar stuff with ultra violence which is just like come on man.
