When I was 14 I worked in an ice cream parlor and I was alone on my shift and a quadrapeligic man came in and asked for some ice cream.  So I reach for a cup because I think to myself, a cone for this guy would be an insult since he has no way to carry it back home.  But to my surprise, he asks for a sugar cone.  So I scoop him a double and then he asks me to feed him.  Honestly, I was a little creeped out at this point, but the guy is completely paralyzed so I help him out.  Spoon feeding this guy ice cream would have been fine but the cone meant all kinds of gross things, like repositioning the cone and making sure I didn't get this strange man's drool all over my hand.  And I had to feed him the entire cone after he finished the ice cream.  So kind of creepy, kind of gross, but I felt like I did a really good thing that day by helping this guy out.  But then he didn't even tip me.  Not even the 15 cents change.  But whatever, quadrapeligic, probably on a fixed, limited income, so I let it slide.

I come to find out later that he would come in often, sometimes multiple times per week, and ask if any girls were working.  If there were he would only order cones and was offended when one girl refused to feed him unless it was from a cup with a spoon.  She even offered to crush up the cone and use it as a topping so he wouldn't miss out.  If there weren't any girls available he wouldn't order anything and would just leave (and apparently the older female employees didn't count as "girls").  It got to the point where a manager had to ask him to only come in if he had an aide because he was sufficiently creeping out all of the female staff.  Although we told him that we couldn't feed him because of sanitary reasons.

I wish it was only sensational... but no it was so weird.  My ice cream store got a bunch of strange characters.  Like the guy who only wanted an EENSY WEENSY TEENSY BIT OF ORANGE SHERBERT WITH AN EEENSY WEENSY TEENSY BIT OF WHIPPED CREAM.

And he would yell it like a constipated cartoon character.

No, I'd be creeped out too.  But looking at it from the outside, you just realize that dude was so sexually frustrated from being paralyzed that he could only get his jollies by being fed ice cream cones by cute young girls.  That's a pretty sad situation.

I know, and I did feel bad that we basically banned him from the store.  But it was getting to the point where if any of the girls saw him coming, we'd run and hide in the basement... this was difficult when we had two girls on shift (which happened all the time) or if we were in the middle of serving someone else.

Awesome!  That's promising for the future.  We had this concern with my kid sister while growing up because she has numerous lung/breathing problems and my mom was extra scared that she'd end up a midget because of the medication.

Remarkably, she turned out perfectly fine (except for hypochondria and chronic bronchitis) and is NOT the shortest person in the family.

Every day when I go to lunch there's a lady that I work with standing outside the door that everyone leaves and enters smoking a cigarette. There aren't any windows on the door or anything, and every single day I open the door and hit her. You'd think that maybe she'd move a couple feet to the right or left but no, it just happened again today.

Ha ha. I wouldn't even care that much, but every time I hit her with the door she turns around and looks at me like she's mad and I end up apologizing for some reason when she's the one who should be apologizing for standing right in front of the door.

Also, another new work irksome, there's a guy I work with who no matter what time of the day it is if you say hi to him he'll reply with "good morning." It could be 4pm and he'll still reply with "good morning."

I've mentioned this before in other threads, but I hate it when I answer the phone and the person on the other end just says, "With Donna."  Or "With Belinda." Or "With whoever."

I want to be like, "What would you like to DO with Donna, exactly?  And be careful with your answer, 'cause that's my mom, yo."

People need to learn how to use the phone properly.  With so and so, indeed.


I also hate it when I answer the phone and say, "Law Offices of {my boss}" and the person on the other end says, "is he there?"  It's like, yeah, there's one name on the firm name, but we have 6 male attorneys.  Ask for one of them by name, you jerk.  If you want to talk to my boss, ask for Mr. Rxxxxx.
